Half Marathon...

has anyone ever played a part? I'm seriously considering the Sheffield Half Marathon this year - sponsorship to Macmillan Cancer Support.

My mum was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer about 32 years ago, after a misdiagnosis of a cyst about a year or two before - she went onto a waiting list for the removal of the 'cyst'.

21 years later (and after a number of operation due to spread cancer) her surgeon / cancer research identified a faulty gene which caused this rare cancer, myself and my two brothers had to be tested for this gene and I was the only one who carried it. I had my thyroid removed, so fingers crossed for the future but I carry a 50% chance I could pass it onto my kids.

I'm not fitness freak but I really want to do this as without the continued research and available funds, we may not have identified this gene and I may have gone through the numerous operations my mum did.

Go for it, if you have your heart set on doing it, it's not a race so you can take as much time as you want completin it, if you start now i'm sure you can build yourself up for it

Err no Craig, bit far to go. I'm from Rotherham, so as the Sheffield run is about 20mins away from where I live and also 13ish miles, I'm looking at that one. How did you find it?

Very enjoyable, people always cheering you on when you slow down but finishing it makes you feel proud as you've completed a long task. So I'd say go for it you'll enjoy it.
