Default What is this peachy pearly lucite (?) article?

I've had this little plastic cylinder for quite a few years. Got it at an estate sale and I have never known what it is but it's pretty neat. It's almost as big as a 12 oz. can of Coke, but the Coke won't fit into it. It has a flat disk of a lid with what looks like a glue spot where something must have been attached in the past, as a knob or handle for the lid.

The arched handle on the body swivels on goldtone metal rings.

The plastic is VERY pearly. There is no lettering on it.

I truly don't know what it is. Maybe a little girl's purse? Some kind of vanity/boudoir/bathroom item? Certainly not a food storage item?

Have gotten to the point of being ready to clear it out but would like to list it as whatever it really is!

I don't have the least idea, but if I say so it will get bumped and somebody better informed might wander in.

It might well have been designed for tins. and then they changed the shape of the tins ever so slightly. I had bought a couple of plastic covers with lids to fit the tins so you don't have to drink it all in one go, well the tins now don't fit any more

Thank you, Kimbo, Meebo and Olivia, for your answers. I don't think it's to store a partially-drunk soft drink can because the lid is very loose. It just sits loosely into an inner rim of the main container.

Mankind has invented many artifacts; maybe this is a branch of the evolutionary tree that ended and didn't become well known. It does seem to have very few, or no scratches. Maybe it was a prototype from a factory and a worker or the inventor kept it through the years as a souvenir.

I would just hate to get rid of it and THEN discover what it is! But I must be strong in my resolve to clean out the place...
