On what evidence do you base this on?

On what evidence do you base this?

Are we talking scientific empirical or intuitive perception? Neither is always right or always wrong. There can be no evidence for something that hasn't happened yet. However, Ebid's becoming #1 can become fact (of either kind) through the efforts of many interested people.

Wishful thinking probably covers it then

No, I think you should be thinking more in terms of observation and hypothesis. It's a hypothesis which we will all be/have been testing!

My tests have gone quite well.

I think reports of ebays imminent demise are exaggerated.
    Unfortunately.

    I agree with you.
All these people who say the "think" ebay is going to collapse.
What they really mean is they "hope" its going to collapse.
As you say where is the evidence.
Ebid is a great site, nice software, nice rules, nice fees, nice people, nice owners.
But we need many more sellers to come over and start listing.
And we need many more buyers.
Too many people are listing a few items on here and leaving most of their listings on feebay. (But they do it as they need the sales/income/money)

O.K., evidence. How about the trends in listing numbers over the last few years. A lot of business is clearly migrating away from feebay.

I think the only thing that feebay has is the perception that most things are available there and hence the traffic. That perception is now out of date. People are gradually discovering that Google is a far better option if you want to find a product. In the past, if I wanted to value something I automatically went to feebay and did a search to see what it had sold for in the recent past. Now I'm now more likely to use Google/Google Shopping as it brings up more results.

Fortunately, I don't think it's necessary for feebay to collapse for other sites to succeed in any case.

I search for items on Google now...where I used to search on eBay.

That way, I get to shop around on a whole bunch of sites.

A lot of people who used to sell on eBay can be found on other sites...especially those who sell collectables and also crafters
