I am in Florida and I hear the word mispronounced all the time .. I have heard it pronounced JEW-LER-RY by jewelers as well. In fact I have even heard it pronounced jew-ler-ry in jewelry store commercials.
I certainly hope they are NOT removing English spelling from a British Site.
Not concerned if they change to American spelling on the US site, but NOT on the UK one.

I've already replied to the original post (didn't realise it was so long ago!) but I've been thinking. What is the blinkin' difference? We all KNOW what we're looking for whether it is JEWELLERY OR JEWELRY or any other way you want to spell it. I checked it on Google last night and put in the American spelling - it asked me if I meant JEWELLERY!!!!

But I agree with GOTHICINA - I seriously hope they do NOT change the spelling on the BRITISH site! Let's face it, the spelling originated here in the UK - other countries use their OWN interpretation of it and that's fine. Maybe it is easier to spell but WHY should WE in the UK have to change OUR way of spelling to please other countries?

England is really making a mess of the English language !! <smile> JUST KIDDING !!!!

The person who replied to me said they are fixing ONLY the USA site. British spelling on the UK site remains the same. For most words, I prefer British spellings ... I especially like the "re" ending better than "er."

    I don't like the sound of Jew-LER-y though ..

OMG, I just put jewelry in my titles and U.S. buyers find my store. Also I think I read on a forum a while back that is you search ebid for the UK spelling the US jewelry comes up on the search as well.

Of course, it's none of my business if you call your convenience Lou while we call ours John as long as everyone gets it right when nature calls.
An we both use the expression Jack Sh*t!

But was it in the Loo or the John?

That list of rules is wrong anyway. What it should say is,
Rule # 1..The Brits are ALWAYS right.
Rule # 2..If the Brits are wrong, rule one applies.
