Ebid total number of items.

Most days I have a look at power sellers unite to see how the numbers of items on ebid are rising.
I know the figures for greedbay are misleading because huge numbers are duplicates or rubbish from China with huge postal charges but the ebid figure sometimes doesn't update for a day at a time and sometimes seems to drop or rise by big amounts that seem impossible to justify.
I know the trend is steadily upwards but can anyone explain the fits and starts and why for instance its reporting a drop of a third of a million items (10%) in less than 24 hours?.

Half a million auctions seemed to disappear over night.
Also some catagories are showing negatives amounts.

I dont know why but YDC often show a negative number unless its YDC week

Makes me wonder how these figures are worked out. I can't be bothered getting a calculator and adding all the numbers up, then comparing with total shown.
It seems obvious that it is not acurate.

I think so too. Like your mom always told you "be careful what you wish for". Sellers clammered for ebid to get rid of dead listings, now they have and we lost 400,000 listings over night.

Hope the guy who has the $2 items starting at $500 with buy it now at $10,000 got the boot. Wasted space.

Not for a second do I regret that. I daresay there are still many dead listings, and I'd like to see them go too. I'd rather have a small, active, vibrant site than a massive corpse. Buyers care about being able to actually complete a purchase smoothly first time, only sellers care about popularity tables.
