That is a feebay thing; a book on china goes in china, a jewelry holder goes in jewelry. Guess mustard gets listed with spoons?

Usually I like being able to list in two categories. i.e. vintage tablecloths, Antiques, and in Home and Garden. Logically, people look in one or the other.

But pull out craft books and put in crafts? Or make a duplicate category in Crafts so it is in both? Those who only look in one place will assume ebid has less craft books.

And why have a category/sub category way of searching if stuff is divided and put in a couple of completely different places? A universal search has to be done to catch all items.

Please no more sub categories! OK with 100,000 items, but not with just a sprinkle in each subcat because it is neat. Waste of keystrokes (we ain't getting any younger), and it discourages window shopping. Sometimes a buyer does not know they need it until they see it. They will never see it is it is tucked away with its five other little buddies in some sub cat.

Have Books as a main category and then sub each craft. I go to books to find a book, not to a hobby.

Books are books and should be in a books category. As when browsing the shelves in a bricks and mortar bookshop you then find the sub-category you are seeking.

Patterns (knitting, dressmaking, patchwork etc) are usually a different format - (eg single sheet, in plastic wallet, paper envelope etc) and not a book so rightly belong with the craft concerned.

Most pattern books are books or magazines or phamplets. There are no pattern papers / forms like sewing has for crocheting or knitting yet these guys have their books in the craft category.

If all of you who want books only with books; why does crocheting and knitting have it? NOt trying to cause problems but we would want the craft books in one or the other and not both please.

We went through each of the craft categories. Most of them have books in them whether its in patterns; other; instructions or something similar so is the policy going to be that all books; magazines; leaflets / phamplets going to be put in the book section and only patterns like those that are for sewing ie you have pieces of paper and not a proper book; going to be allowed in the craft section?

If this is what everyone wants; can you please help us get it and clean up each craft category? Thank you.

If you think some of the books are listied incorrectly in the craft section then perhaps a note to support@ebid.net reporting them as being in the wrong category may be the way to go. Not all members who list and sell on eBid frequent the forums.

But bear in mind that - as already has been mentioned, so some books on crafts - especially cross stich, embroidery and sewing do contain patterns - which then are correct in the relevant craft category - know how and how to do books and general books relating to craft should be in the book section and are, if as you say, listed in the craft section - then they are in the wrong place.

Babs; there is a ton of them hence why we put a comment on it. These are all books, magazines or phamplets as well. Very few of them would be classified as a pattern like a sewing pattern ie you have one sheet or you take it out of a envelope.

The only people who will object to items being in the wrong category are either buyers fed up with wading through dross, or sellers in the same category with some competitive axe to grind. Unfortunately ebid does not appear to have any sort of independent category policing going on - it only responds to complaints, and then on a listing-by-listing basis. Your best bet is to do as Babs suggests, and hope you can convince support to take a more general look at the problem and end all the misplaced listings.

Hence the 2nd thread Bykimbo asking if crafters are willing to help clean up one category each so that we can have good categories for our buyers. You are right; buyers are not going to be wading through the lot but if we all make an effort to clean it up and keep it clean then it would not be too much work?

As per my original reply - not all sellers visist the forums so putting a request here for all sellers to 'move their listings' is in truth a waste of time, effort and energy.

There is also the point that, which as a seller you yourself will appreciate, when a seller lists an item in any given category - to that sellers mind, that item is in the correct category.

    My original suggestion stands.

    I hope that helps.
