Thread: Advertising ebid on ebay

Oh it is satisfying but probably does not generate much business for us or ebid. And we all want to sell more stuff and ebid wants to grow,so finding all kinds of venues to do both is important.

i.e. because I just got an good lead about a local B &B that needs vintage linens, I am putting together a mailing with info on ebid, my website and my stores on ebid to sell linens to selected innkeepers in US and Canada. My goal? Hey if i get two new buyers for me and ebid I will be happy!

Meanwhile I keep handing out my little info cards too.

I was thinking of perhaps when I leave feedback to mention something like "hope to see you on ebid" etc. I want to make sure that if I mention ebid on eBay it's done in a legal way so eBay have no grounds to delete it.

Other than that what are some good ways of promoting this fab website everywhere else? I want to encourage sellers because I feel really guilty about purchasing things on eBay but I only do so because no one is selling the items I need on here yet. And buyers go where the sellers are.

So let me know your ideas.

    Thanks x

Greedbay can revoke your membership and take back your decoder ring for anything that remotely points to any place off of their site that sells things. Unless, you are a million dollar seller, then do whatever u want.

Also, they will pull listings, feedback, and other such things. Of course I have seen sellers who have a name like mycompanydotcom as their id, but they are million dollar sellers and can do whatever they want.

Even in classified listings, you can't list your or any other site, so.....

Once upon a time on the other side, if you received a question from a potential buyer and clicked "Reply" instead of answering directly via their messaging system, that persons email address would be revealed, and you could then use it to approach them directly. But alas eb** got wise to that and it is now a coded address they display.

Also, if you do reply to a question using their messaging system and incorporate your own email address for the buyer to contact you. 9 times out of ten the message does not get delivered. I know this for a fact, having spoken to some buyers after the eventual sale.

Picking up on that, but not addressing just this poster...

This behaviour is mirrored in every clued-up selling site I know. The only ones without such rules and behaviour are the fledgling sites that aren't switched-on enough to think of it, or know how to achieve it. Every site, including this one, does all it can think of to prevent sellers from going outside the system. Of course, they do. Who wouldn't? These places are all businesses trying to make a living, not registered charities, or your local corner shop charging a pound for postcard in the window after which you do what you like.

eBid goes further than most in trying to prevent outside trading, and good for them if they feel that way, it's their prerogative and they need to make sure they harvest the already modest fees they charge.

I don't understand why so many people think demonstrating in public, on a selling site, that they will go to extreme lengths to defraud a site of its fees is funny or clever. Why do people think eBid will be impressed by this behaviour? It would be like the mistress who marries the philandering husband expecting him to treat her better than the last wife.

All cheating eby to promote eBid demonstrates is that one will be perfectly happy to cheat eBid to promote thenextsellingsitethatcomesalong.com

There is one MASSIVE difference between ebid and eb**

Ebid treats it's members with respect, and I do not believe for one minute that ANY ebid member would cheat on them. Irrespective of what you may think. You've only got to read all the various posts on these forums and you learn straight away that all ebid members are generally one big happy family.....genuinely honest, very helpful and very careing, and will do everything in their power to help ebid be successful....I know I've criticized them in the past, but now I'm totally dedicated to help make this site work.

It's not just the differences between the two, or even people's perceptions of the differences. There is also the practical expedient of finding a way to get those people who buy from us over there to buy from us over here instead. And with the increased goose-stepping and heel-clicking over there, it's become increasingly important to find a way to do that. For me, it's not about payback; it's about sales. That said, it should be clear that many people have come over here because they feel they've been ill-treated there. You can extrapolate from that. I don't think anybody with good sense is going to feel loyalty to any organization he feels has mistreated him.

Default Notifying Ebay sellers we are here on ebid.

I am not saying that I do it but It really is dead easy

All my emails are handled by Express on one PC and Outlook on the other for different ID's and as such I have access and all the details of all transactions from ebay in one place on each PC. I also always ask my ebay buyers on one particular specialised ebay ID what is their specific interest and there you have it, exactly what their interest are, takes time I know but it is all on record, permanently.

I am daily getting more fed up with the idiotic raft of measures they are putting in place on ebay and believe me it is gonna get worse, a lot worse.

No disrespect meant but I would not bank on all that. As things progress here on ebid you will find the bad sellers and buyers crawling out of the woodwork sams as on e*ay, lets just hope the powers that be here on ebid at that time deal with them as they should be dealt with and that ebid does not adopt the same idiotic practices that eb*y have gone down the road of, time will inevitably tell.
I sincerely hope that ebid really do take advantage of the sellers dissatisfaction with e*ay and can tempt them over here along with the buyers and that really could be the key to it all.
Recognition by spiders on Goo*le is another big attraction to buyers so long as the keywords are correctly used.

I agree, that is a good way to get the emails fast and contact those old customers. This should be done soon, as feebay's upcoming changes are going to leave those selling/buying collectables, vintage items, etc, without a place to buy and sell.

    Also important to market by:

    1. google searchs. Many new buyers come to ebid thru google searchs. Make sure your titles and descriptions are searchable, make sure you auto relist at least 8-10 times.

    2. self promote with handouts. Print up postcard sized advertisements w/ your website, ebid.net, your ebid store addresses, list of what you sell, etc. Explain what ebid.net is and what you sell. Be sassy "bingo boy left e*bay, and just in time!!!" Hand out a dozen a week to friends, family, people at PO, post on supermarket bulletin board, etc. If someone asks what you do, hand out a card. Give out any info (mobile number, etc) by using back of card (2 bird w/ one stone).

    3. self promote via mailing/emails. Find group that uses your stuff, send them info on your stuff. I just sent out a mailing to B &Bs/Inns introducing myself & letting them know what vintage linens I have in stock. Offered discount. Pulled info off B &B register site and got 2 new customers within a few days of mailing! Jewelry people could contact small high end shops. Sports people could contact smaller stores & give them a deal.on collectables.

Others have made more suggestions too. Point is if we bring in new customers (or old ones) we promote our stuff and ebid too. With the holidays coming up fast, we all have to get busy doing this.
