I think that it is a biblical thing. The Catholic church used to ban eating meat on Fridays in honor of the day Jesus died, however fish was allowed.

But fish is a meat. It comes from a living animal.

People who eat fish are not vegetarians, and you will *never* meet a vegan who would use "an excuse" to eat fish.

Eating fish on Friday's is a religious thing, not a dietary thing.

I've been a vegetarian for over twenty years, and have known several vegans, and understand their philosophy, even if I don't quite share it.

The religious allowing of fish on Friday is a piece of religious weaseling dating back many, many years. The original instruction was to fast on Fridays, in the sense of "not eating meat", so it was conveniently decided that fish was not meat so that nobody would actually have to under-go any hardship.

I agree with that, although I do know a vegetarian who says she would never eat anything with a face. But never the less eats fish - does a fish not have a face?

I know there are some species of fish that do not have eyes, but we are talking tuna here. She could never work out why I didn't trust her after that.

Then she's not a vegetarian, just somebody who uses the name incorrectly. I never understand why there are so many "wannabees" in the world of vegetarianism. Why not just say you don't eat meat, if that's all it is?
