Tiscali - anybody in? - giving up

Are there any Tiscali users still being made to use stale DNS data or have they finally fixed their problems?

Not sure what you mean by being forced to use stale DNS data, but...

I have been using the HOSTS solution to get access.

Everyday for the past month or so I have been reverting to the original HOSTS file in order to test if tiscali have got their act together.

In the past day or two, I have managed to get access using the original HOSTS file, but it eventually goes t*ts up again after an hour or so, so I have had to revert back to the HOSTS file with the ebid IPs numbers.

So in a nutshell, as far as I am aware, they haven't sorted it out yet.

They certainly haven't got back to me, or left any messages in their forums to say they have sorted it, since I last checked their forums earlier this evening.

This is a good sign, it means they have started to update some of the DNS servers while some are still pointing to month old data.

DNS is like an automated telephone directory.

You type in someones name (eg. www.ebid.net)

Tiscali as your supplier then looks up the name and connects you to the correct telephone number (IP address)

We changed our "telephone number" a month ago but Tiscali are forcing their users to call the old number on which there is no reply because we've all moved house.

It is the ISPs duty to keep an up to date record of IP addresses, good ISPs will check every few minutes for any changes, larger ISPs tend to take up to 48 hours.

In this case Tiscali have astonishingly negelected their duties and I am just dumbfounded as to how they still haven't got round to fixing what is the core of their entire service.

mean while gazza you (the company) have been losing business/customers.... May be you should be jumping up and down on a few heads there as well.

Can anyone give us an update on this?

Our attempts to contact them have, as we expected, been in vain. The chance of us getting through the layers to someone who actually cares or knows how to fix this are virtually zero but we will continue.

If anyone has any direct contact details can they forward them to support FAO Gazza.

I changed my settings back to Obtain my DNS server automatically and cannot access ebid. I also cleared my DNS cache.

Back to OpenDNS so I can access site with Tiscali.

Can you ask them what the hell the problem is and to contact us on support at ebid dot net. They STILL have not explained what the problem is and why they STILL have not fixed it. Our attempts to contact anyone who is helpful in the least have been a failure. The moderators on the thread seem to just ask users to update their DNS settings, this is a very poor cop out.

We have hundreds of different ISPs accessing us daily and Tiscali is the only one with problems.
