Tiscali - anybody in? - giving up

Aren't Tiscali a total ******* joke!

It is now three weeks.

They seem to think it is OK to recommend openDNs and HOSTS solution, which then lets them off the hook.

What they seem to be forgetting are the people who don't realise there is a problem with Tiscali

I saw this little nicety on moneysavingsexpert which I think sums up the real situation

I too have been having the tiscali problems, i used the workaround of changing the hosts file, and can now get to the ebid site, but i am unable to see most of the images.

To start with i could not get anything so i went to the tiscali forums.
Now tiscali are telephoning me to get the problem sorted out, not sure why me, i have not bought out tiscali.

They think a bit like me, the change should have been an auto update, so they do not know how to sort it out.

If i go and buy a domain name and webspace, it usually takes upto 48hrs to populate. Why was Ebids change not auto-updated?

If i get tiscali to ring ebid, would mark and gary be able to help them sort it?

Tiscali seems to be the only one that has not auto-updated. Newnet updated very quickly on one of it's named servers. I could get back in by 5.30pm on the 29th.

I am sure G & M would be happy to talk to Tiscali to sort out issues.

If you had previously done Gothicinas work around by altering System 32 driver files you need to delete that work around for the other one to take over.

We haven't listed anything at all, and have only just got around to changing the DNS settings. We didn't check the forum as it was too much hassle, so only just found the DNS adresses.

Like the earlier posters have hinted, what about the potential buyers, new eBidders etc..? Could eBid themselves not have done some sort of redirect until they were certain everyone one was back in & working?

In the meantime we have continued our experiments on the other site and made exactly 178 sales to date

... great as far as we are concerned but not great for eBid or our motivation to get back & relist our items here ??

For those that knew of our problems with NPB here ( approaching nearly 50% and retaliatory feedback), we have had none at all on the other site.. and our feed back is 100% - check our repatoo

It's actually worked out ok for us, and so we are only trying to make the point of how much potential damage this event may have had on the site ?
We probably will list some more items but we not 100% commited now as we have been in the past

I always look at things differently. If eb*y and Tiscali are "in bed together" then you have fallen right into their master scheme. Since every other ISP updated and not them I'ld be supicious. Instead of changing your ISP you have stopped using ebid and sell on the other site. Just want they wanted. End of story.

edit: They also know people really do not want to change their ISP as it's a hassle. These people are not stupid and know how to "play the game".
