It's not just Tiscali users that have a problem with eBid. I've only had very intermittent access to eBid via proxy sites & OpenDNS for 8 days. Most links & options don't work. I can no longer get into MyeBid at all!

In 10 years of internet use I've never had this problem before.
No choice but to email support and ask them to close my auctions.

Can't even get smilies in this post.

Who are you with, if it's not Tiscali?
What operating system are you using?
    What browser are you using?

    I'm with NewNet (v.good ISP) and using W98SE & Firefox (sometimes IE6).

I saw your instructions about altering a file in the System32 folder but couldn't find that file.

Newnet are only a mile away from me, strange you are having so many problems, though 98SE is an old system, I wouldn't have thought that it would cause that many problems.

They are only 5 miles from here, After a year or so with them I'm very pleased with their reliability etc.

My old PC is due for replacement next year, not looking forward to getting Vista though.

    Default Work around for DNS

Like an earlier poster suggested - I changed the DNS numbers to the ones quoted and I am here! Posting my first ever post!

I can view ebid now after over a week of nothing.

Here's the way to do it in XP

    1. Select Control Panel from the Start menu.
    2. Click Network Connections from the Control Panel choices.
    3. Choose your connection from the Network Connections window.
    4. Click Properties button.
    5. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.
    6. Click the radio button “Use the following DNS server addresses” and type in 213.208.106.212 in the Preferred DNS server and 213.208.106.213 in the Alternate DNS server fields.
    7. Restart your PC.

Worked for me and I'm a bit thick when it comes to computers!

We are with newnet and I had a problem with one of the DNSs. Try changing your primary dns server to 212.87.64.10 and removing 212.87.64.7

Thanks for suggestion, that gave me a quick loading front page... but nothing else, not even the forums. Should I have a secondary DNS entry also? I started with none at all lol.

Getting out of my depth here with DNS.

    Newnet issue for win 98.

Having set primary dns to 212.87.64.10, the computer will have been restarted - a "warm" start.

This does not clear the dns cache - which may well be why access to the forums and other lower level pages is still not working.

To clear the dns cache in win 98, it is necessary to shut down completely, then turn on again. This gives a "cold" start with all remembered items cleared - including the dns cache.

Hopefully, this will solve your current problem. Currently, we are getting best results using only one dns entry (as above) with newnet.

If this does not work, we may need to consider the possibility that incorrect dns is originating elsewhere.

This is terrible just think how many potential Tiscali buyers still cant get to the site,

And i expect that TalkTalk and Pipex users are also affected as TalkTalk now owns Tiscali and Pipex.
