Tiscali - anybody in? - giving up

I feel for you people. That is totally unacceptable. Do you know there is devices available like this nowadays? They work anywhere you have cell phone coverage. They plug into a usb port and that's all you need. No router, cables or anything else. The modem is built right inside. If I had your problems I'ld be giving your ISP provider the boot and looking at something else. For instance I have one I bought through telus but it works on northwestel as well. There is some available now that you can use on just about anyone's cell phone coverage in the world. I'm going through a wireless N router at the moment, but it's nice to have backup. Check the rates and what they allow you for data transfer though. Some carriers charge more than others.

Well I've read this a few times and I am still strugging to see what this has to do with the problem Tiscali users are having accessing ebid.

Do these devices ensure you can access ebid if you use Tiscali as your broadband provider?

They just called me to say, there main bunch of servers, add been ill due to heat exaustion lol and have now swapped over to secondary backup all will be well soon. and updated today!

Always lots of computer system problems in a heatwave, the Post Office, National Lottery, & Lloyds Bank systems were all on a go slow yesterday!!

Good idea to check the heat of your PC, & that the fans aren't clogged etc, as long as you don't have little ones, (kids or pets) that will try & poke around, taking the sides off will help cool it down.

No they don't, they're nothing to do with Tiscali. They work through the mobile phone networks, if they're like the ones we have over here.

In fact they just give you a choice of another ISP, like my T Mobile dongle does, not that you can try every different provider until you find one that works, you need to have an account with someone first.

For anybody who cannot wait any longer for tiscali to get sorted, the nice engineer i just spoke to has given me the dns server address that they will be using

while he was on phone we fed it into my puter and ebid came to life hoorayyyyy complete with pictures and all ebid websites worldwide

IF YOU DO THIS YOU MUST REMEMBER TO DELETE THE TEMP
WORK AROUND WHEN YOU HAVE FINISHED THIS SETUP OR ELSE IT WONT WORK

THIS IS FOR XP NOT SURE ABOUT VISTA BUT PROBABLY ROUGHLY SAME..

1)GO START MENU THEN CONTROL PANEL

2)FIND NETWORK CONNECTION ICON AND DOUBLE CLICK
TO OPEN

3)IN THIS SCREEN RIGHT CLICK ON THE CONNECTION U
ARE USING AND SELECT PROPERTIES

4)ON THE FIRST TAB WHICH SHOULD BE (GENERAL) LOOK
DOWN THE PAGE AT THE LIST OF CONNECTIONS AND HIGHLIGHT (INTERNET PROTOCAL TCP/IP)MAKE SURE THE
TICK STAYS IN THE BOX NEXT TO IT. NOW CLICK PROPERTIES.

5)ON THE GENERAL TAB OF THE NEXT BOX LOOK DOWN THE PAGE AND YOU WILL SEE (OBTAIN DNS SERVER ADDRESS AUTOMATICALLY) YOU NEED TO UNTICK THIS ONE AND USE THE ONE BELOW IT SAYS (USE THE FOLLOWING DNS SERVER
ADDRESSES)

6)PLEASE ENTER THE FOLLOWING ADDRESSES
PREFERRED DNS SERVER 213.208.106.212

ALTERNATE DNS SERVER 213.208.106.213

THEN CLICK OK AND ITS ALL DONE

DONT TO FORGET TO DELETE THE TEMP WORK AROUND IF YOU HAVE BEEN USING THAT.

SHUT ALL YOUR BOXES DOWN AND GO TO WWW.EBID.NET
AND ALL WILL BE RIGHT WITH THE WORLD ONCE MORE
