Default Foil through laser printer onto paper

Possibly 20 years ago there was a fad of using a type of thin foil sheets to somehow embellish fabric. I didn't participate but I read by chance that you could use this foil to make shiny metallic printing on ordinary paper or cardstock that you first printed in black on a laser printer, then ran through again with a chunk of the foil temporarily taped on top of that, and it would come out shiny and metallic where it had previously been "regular" black toner.

I did this many times, successfully.

But time has passed and I can't find the foil in craft stores. And I don't know what it's called. Is it "hot foil" as used with a Staedtler hot foil pen? To your knowledge, would other types of foil sheets work too? I haven't experimented because I'm not willing to risk frying my laser printer! Thanks in advance.

I used that product for printers years ago and got it from Paper Direct (.com and .co.uk) Don't know if they still do it.
I sell the foil you use with a special tacky glue on fabrics but have never tried it with a printer. (I don't have a laser printer so can't test it out.)

Thank you both, Scotty and TreasuredBargains. I feel like among all of us, we will get this solved. No real pressing need but once on a hunt like this, I become intent.

Eureka. I got some from TreasuredBargains and it works very well. Trying to attach two photos here. The black and white one is the laser-printed text & ornaments; the greenish one is "Polar" color Metallic Foil for Embellishment.

The procedure was: 1)print on plain white paper with laser printer 2)Using removable tape, lay on an appropriately sized piece of the foil, design side up 3)send through the laser printer again, this time "printing" a totally blank page.

The foil apparently gets hotter where the paper has black toner on it, and sticks there.

Wow, looks GORGEOUS! Well done, TexasAda.

Just found out last week that the place where I get my ink cartridges refilled has a special offer on laser printers so think I'm going to buy one now!
