    History

    Paul Smith’s introduction into fashion was completely accidental.

    At the age of 16, with no career plans or qualifications, Paul Smith was propelled by his father into a menial job at the local clothing warehouse in his native Nottingham. However his real passion was sport and his ambition was to become a professional racing cyclist, until aged 17 years when cycling-mad Paul was in a terrible accident.
    Six months in hospital followed and during this time Paul made some new friends. After leaving hospital he arranged to meet them again and by chance the meeting place was a local pub that was popular with the students from the local art college.
    They talked of Mondrian, Warhol, Kokoshka, David Bailey and listened to the Rolling Stones, Miles Davis and much more. It was then Paul knew he wanted to be a part of this colourful world of ideas and excitement.
    Within two years, Paul Smith was managing his first boutique in Nottingham and with the encouragement of his girlfriend Pauline Denyer (now wife) and a small amount of savings, opened a tiny shop in 1970. Paul started to take evening classes for tailoring and with the help of Pauline (an RCA fashion graduate), Paul was able to create what he wanted. By 1976 Paul showed his first menswear collection in Paris under the Paul Smith label.
    Within 20 years of his introduction to fashion Paul Smith had established himself as the pre-eminent British designer. Paul Smith has the ability to anticipate, and even spark off trends not only fashion but in the wider context of popular culture. He manages to transmit a genuine sense of humour and mischief mixed with his love of tradition and the classics
    Today there are 12 different collections; Paul Smith, Paul Smith Women, PS by Paul Smith, Paul Smith Jeans, Paul Smith London, R.Newbold (Japan only), Paul Smith Accessories, Paul Smith Shoes, Paul Smith Fragrance, Paul Smith Watches, Paul Smith Pens and Paul Smith furniture and ‘things’. Paul Smith rugs, china, spectacles and fragrance are made under license. Designed in Nottingham and London, the Paul Smith collections are primarily produced in England and Italy while the fabrics used are mainly of Italian, French and British origin.

    I have missed a few days as I am restructuring my auctions to be auctions as oppossed to shelf items. Todays selection is from the design house of Ungaro. The gents selection is one of those you either love it or hate it because it is so different.

    For the Ladies

    Diva Perfume by Ungaro, Launched by the design house of ungaro in 1983, diva is classified as a luxurious, woody, mossy fragrance.     Born into an Italian tailor family in Aix-en-Provence, Emanuel Ungaro was able to find his freedom over thirty years ago when he rose to the challenge of creating his own Fashion House.

    Today, the man who, at the start of his career, was labeled the “maverick fashion designer”, still free of constraints but subject to his passions, has become a figure of reference in the fashion world.

    This complete fashion designer, as discreet as ever, continues to impose his new designs on each season, has anticipated trends for three decades, embellishes everyday garments and reminds women that they are the joy of every man.

    Everything started when his father, a tailor from southern Italy, discovered the South of France, moved there with his family and opened shop in Aix-en-Provence.

Emanuel Ungaro acquired international repute for his color combination and unexpected motifs, the purity of his silhouettes and the insolence of details.

    Since 1997, Emanuel Ungaro has discovered in the family of Salvatore Ferragamo, the famous Italian leather manufacturer, sharing a similar philosophy to his own and together they have nurtured the project to diversity the Ungaro style already present in Europe, United States, and Asia.     Incanto Cologne by Salvatore Ferragamo, Incanto by Salvatore Ferragamo is a mixture of sensitivity and sophistication.     History

    Salvatore Ferragamo, with six different widths for each available length shoe, has been a market leader in shoe industry for more than seventy years, offering approximately 100 sizes for each model and thus achieving absolute precision in custom-made footwear. In 1998, he introduced a fragrance for men and women called "Salvatore Ferragamo".

    Salvatore Ferragamo was born into a large family of fourteen children in Bonito, Italy. At the young age of nine, he became interested in the art of shoemaking and his reluctant father allowed him to apprentice in Naples.

    When Ferragamo was 14, he immigrated via boat to America along with many of his fellow Italian immigrants. Ferragamo soon became famous in Hollywood, partly due to the Roman sandals that he designed for Cecil de Mille movies. His shoes were not only stylish and imaginative, but they were extremely popular for their comfort.

    His wife and children took over the business in 1960 when Ferragamo died at a young age, and the family has since introduced ready-to-wear lines.

    From the design house of Faberge I am presenting the last of this series. I am finding it more and more difficult to find design houses that I have not already related their histories to you. Although I have not included all the design houses because they may only produce Perfumes for the Ladies and nothing for the Gents or visa versa. Thank you for the following of these promos.     Brut Cologne by Faberge, Launched by the design house of faberge in 1964, brut is classified as a refined, spicy, lavender, amber fragrance. This masculine scent possesses a blend of citrus top notes with hints of spicy woods. It is recommended for evening wear.

    History

    If one wished to describe the capabilities of Peter Carl Fabergé in a single sentence, one would have to compare him to a choreographer. Just as a choreographer succeeds in combining the different characters of his dancers in a harmonious ensemble, Peter Carl Fabergé succeeded in harmonizing the wishes of his customers with the skills of his work masters.

    Peter Carl Fabergé was born in St. Petersburg in 1846, the son of the jeweler Gustav and his Danish wife Charlotte Jungstedr. There he went to the German private school St. Anna. In 1860 the family moved to Dresden, where Peter Carl Faberge attended the commercial school. After graduation, the 14 year old began an extended study trip, in the course of which he completed training as a jeweler at the house of Friedman in Frankfurt am Main.

    In 1864 Peter Carl Faberge returned to his hometown as a fully trained artisan and joined his father’s jewelry business, where he took over management in 1872. That was the start of the unstoppable rise of the jewelry manufactory FABERGE to world fame. Peter and his brother Agathon, who was born in 1862, enthralled visitors at the Pan-Russian Exhibition in Moscow in 1882. For his work, Peter Carl Fabergé received the Gold Medal. Just three years later, Czar Alexander III appointed him Court Supplier. The impetus for this great honor was the creation of the first of the legendary Imperial Easter eggs that same year.

    The reputation of Peter Carl Faberge did not stop at the borders of Russia. In 1897 the royal houses of Sweden and Norway appointed him Court Goldsmith. In 1900, at the behest of Czar Nicholas II, he represented Russian craftsmanship at the Word’s Fair in Paris.

    The success was overwhelming. For his miniature replicas of the czarist crown jewels, he received the gold medal and was inducted into the Légion d’Honneur. Peter Carl Fabergé sold his shares in the company to his employees and fled the chaos of the October Revolution via Riga and Berlin to Wiesbaden. He died in 1920 in Lausanne, Switzerland. His mortal remains were transferred to Cannes to rest beside those of his wife, Augusta.
