    Smile Lanvin

Todays fragerances are selected from the design house of Lanvin and are available in my store for an exceptional value.

    For the Ladies

Arpege Perfume by Lanvin, Launched by the design house of Lanvin in 1927, Arpege is classified as a luxurious, gentle, floral fragrance. This feminine scent possesses a blend of high powdery floral notes combining honeysuckle, jasmine, roses and orange blossoms, a rich combination with lower accents of vanilla and sandalwood. It is recommended for romantic wear.

    For the Gentlemen

Lanvin Cologne by Lanvin, Lanvin L'Homme is a refined new scent that has sparkling citrus top notes of bergamot, mandarin and neroli, a spicy heart of cardamom, coriander sage, lavender and mint, and a warm, sensual base of musk, amber, sandalwood and vanilla.

History and background of Lanvin :Founded in 1889 at 22, Rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré by Jeanne Lanvin (Paris 1867 - 1946), Lanvin is the oldest Parisian fashion house.

From Haute couture (1909) to men's fashion (1926), decoration (1920), and perfumes ("My Sin" in 1925, "Arpège" 1927), the young milliner became the Ambassador of French elegance; transforming her hat and clothing workshops into a veritable fashion empire.

Jeanne Lanvin drew inspiration from her only child; Marguerite (later known as Marie-Blanche de Polignac, a talented opera singer). Marguerite succeeded her mother in 1946 and remained in charge until her death in 1958.

The delicately gilded figure on the spherical Arpège perfume bottle depicting Jeanne Lanvin and her daughter going to a ball has remained the symbol of this motherly love. It became the House logo in 1954.

The Lanvin blue came to life through Madame's spontaneous enthusiasm for a Fra Angelico painting. Along with the motifs created by Armand-Albert Rateau, Jeanne Lanvin's decorator and partner, Lanvin created a distinctive image which remains to this day.

Jeanne Lanvin's successors include Antonio del Castillo, Dominique Morlotti, Jules-François Crahay, Maryll Lanvin, Claude Montana and Patrick Lavoix. Their work has successfully immortalized a very Parisian, elegant couture style.

Since 1993, the House has focused on luxury ready-to-wear and accessories as well as perfumes.

    Smile a little different format

This is a little different format than what I normally present but the name sake of this design house almost demands a different format. I have chosen this format to keep in the feel of this companys history which is told by the owner himself.

Nineteen years ago, I wanted to open a shoe company with limited money. From experience I knew one had to get in quickly because so often new companies run out of cash flow before they get the chance to conduct business. I also knew it was easier to get credit from factories in Europe who needed the business than from American banks that didn't. So I lined up the factories, went to Europe, designed a collection of shoes, and returned to the states to sell them.

At the time, a shoe company had two options. You could get a room at the Hilton and become 1 of about 1100 shoe companies selling their goods. This didn't provide the identity or image I felt necessary for a new company, and it cost a lot more money than I had to spend. The other way was to do what the big companies do and get a fancy showroom in Midtown Manhattan not far from the Hilton. More identity, much more money too.

    I had an idea.

I called a friend in the trucking business and asked to borrow one of his trucks to park in Midtown Manhattan. He said sure, but good luck getting permission. I went to the Mayor's office, Koch at the time, and asked how one gets permission to park a 40 foot trailer truck in Midtown Manhattan. He said one doesn't. The only people the city gives parking permits to are production companies shooting full length motion pictures and utility companies like Con Ed or AT&T. So that day I went to the stationery store and changed our company letterhead from Kenneth Cole, Inc. to Kenneth Cole Productions, Inc. and the next day I applied for a permit to shoot a full length film entitled "The Birth of a Shoe Company."

With Kenneth Cole Productions painted on the side of the truck, we parked at 1370 6th Avenue, across from the New York Hilton, the day of shoe show. We opened for business with a fully furnished 40 ft trailer, a director (Sometimes there was film in the camera, sometimes there wasn't), models as actresses, and two of New York's finest, compliments of Mayor Koch, as our doormen. We sold 40 thousand pairs of shoes in two and a half days (the entire available production) and we were off and running.

To this day the company is still named Kenneth Cole Productions, Inc. and serves as a reminder to the importance of resourcefulness and innovative problem solving.

For the Ladies Kenneth Cole Black

Kenneth Cole Black Perfume by Kenneth Cole, Kenneth Cole Black was launched in 2003 by the design house of Kenneth Cole. An elegant, sophisticated refined fragrance. This beautiful feminine scent is a burst of florals, citrus, sandalwood with a subtle undertone of musk. Kenneth Cole Black is alluring and sensuous for evening wear.

For the Gents Kenneth Cole Reaction

Kenneth Cole Reaction Cologne by Kenneth Cole, Reaction for men by Kenneth Cole was introduced in 2004 as a masculine aroma. This manly scent is sharp and refined. This scent possesses a blend of musk, sandalwood, patchouli, green apple and watermelon. Reaction for men is recommended for daytime wear.

    Smile Dolce & Gabbana

Todays selection of fine fragerances is from the design house of Dolce & Gabbana for pricing info simply put thier name in the start new search above.

    For the Ladies

Dolce & Gabbana Perfume by Dolce & Gabbana, Launched by the design house of Dolce & Gabbana in 1992, Dolce & Gabbana is classified as a luxurious, gentle, floral fragrance. This feminine scent possesses a blend of basil, tangerine, orange flowers, carnation, marigold and vanilla. It is recommended for romantic wear.

    For the Men

Light Blue Cologne by Dolce & Gabbana, It starts with Sicilian mandarin combined with frozen grapefruit peel, bergamot and juniper. Heart notes of rosemary, Szechuan pepper and rosewood, and the mix is rounded out with base notes of musk wood, incense and oak moss.

History and background of Dolce & Gabbana :Design duo Domenico Dolce (b. 1958, near Palermo, Sicily) and Stefano Gabbana (b.1962, Milan, Italy) are known for making "stars look like stars". Their sexy styles are often to be seen on the likes of Isabella Rossellini, Demi Moore, Nicole Kidman and Madonna, for whom they created the now-famous "Kylie Minogue" tribute T-shirt. They also created the costumes for Madonna's Girlie Show in 1993, as well as Whitney Houston's 1999 tour.

Partners both in life and in business, the pair met while working as assistants in an atelier in Milan. Sharing a love of the baroque, they made their name together in 1985, when the organisers of the Milano Collezioni invited them to take part in a fashion show to launch "New Talents". The following year, they presented their first independent women's ready-to-wear show. Since then, they have introduced menswear and a line of signature fragrances, and opened shops in Italy, Japan, Hong Kong and, in 1999,in London (the London salon, designed by British architect David Chipperfield, is testament to the designers' love of mixing their own Mediterranean spirit with English eccentricity).

Originally inspired by eclectic, thrift shop Bohemia, Dolce & Gabbana's deeply coloured, animal prints have been described as "haute hippydom" taking inspiration in particular from Italy's prestigious film history. "When we design it's like a movie," says Domenico Dolce. "We think of a story and we design the clothes to go with it." They claim to be more concerned about creating the best, most flattering clothes than sparking trends, once admitting that they wouldn't mind if their only contribution to fashion history was a black bra.

D&G trademarks include underwear-as-outerwear (such as corsets and bra fastenings), gangster boss pinstripe suits, extravagantly printed and embroidered coats, and black. Meanwhile their fetish-meets-femininity collections are always backed by powerful ad campaigns, like the black-and-white La Sicilia, featuring model Marpessa photographed by Ferdinando Scianna in 1987. But fundamentally they are known for making women look, quite simply, devastatingly sexy. "They find their way out of any black dress, any buttoned-up blouse," says Rossellini. "The first piece of theirs I wore was a white shirt, very chaste, but cut to make my breasts look as if they were bursting out of it."

Once dubbed the "Gilbert and George of Italian fashion", Dolce and Gabbana gave their fashion interests a musical turn in 1996, by recording their own single, in which they intoned the words "D&G is love" over a techno beat. Newer to the design game than other heavyweight Italian fashion houses such as Versace and Armani, the pair acknowledge that luck has played its part in their phenomenal success. By 1997, their company reported a turnover of £400 million, prompting both designers to announce that they planned to retire by the age of 40 - a promise they happily did not keep.

    Company History:
    1923-45: The Dark Era
In 1923, the year when post-World War I Germany was shaken by high unemployment and hyperinflation, German master tailor Hugo Boss set up shop in the small town of Metzingen, about 20 miles south of Stuttgart. Boss started out making protective suits for industrial workers and other work clothes for men. Other Boss specialties were raincoats and uniforms. Over the years the tailor's workshop grew into a small factory.
When Germany--led by Adolf Hitler's National Socialist regime--went to war again in 1939, uniforms were in high demand. One year before the company's 75th anniversary, in August 1997, the Austrian current affairs magazine Profil reported that Hugo Boss's name appeared on a list of dormant Swiss bank accounts, revealing that the company produced uniforms for the Nazis, using forced laborers from France and Poland, during World War II. Two months after the article appeared, Hugo Boss's top management assigned a historian from a nearby university to research and document the company's history during the infamous Nazi era and in 1999 pledged to reimburse its former slave laborers.
    1967-92: The Holy Era
Nineteen years after the death of company founder Hugo Boss in 1948, two of his grandsons, in their mid-20s, Uwe and Jochen Holy, took over the firm. The business-savvy brothers turned the company around completely, steering it into a new, more promising direction: men's wear. While Jochen, the younger brother by two years, had a sense for the latest trends, his older brother Uwe developed the necessary marketing strategies. When Hugo Boss entered the market in the second half of the 1960s, Germany's men's wear manufacturers were trying to price one another out of the market in order to get a bigger peace of a shrinking pie. They had modernized their production plants and increased their capacities to satisfy the exploding demand during Germany's postwar economic boom. However, the short recession of 1966 signaled the end of the German "economic miracle." Under the Holy brothers, Hugo Boss started making brown, blue, green, and black suits for men. The good-quality, sturdy fabric they used was also made in Metzingen, by textile maker Gaenslen & Voelter. Priced above average and cut in a more youthful way than the suits of the German men's wear establishment of the time, the suits and jackets of the Holy brothers outperformed all their competitors' within just a decade. Traditionally, German suits for men were made out of stiff and heavy fabrics. At the turn of the decade, however, Hugo Boss introduced new lines of suits made out of high-quality, extremely light Italian fabrics in fashionable colors and designs. In the 1970s, the company began to charge even higher prices for their attractive new product lines. At the same time, they pioneered the trend to manufacture abroad, a trend that would later move all but a fraction of the German apparel industry outside the country's borders. The Holy brothers also conquered foreign markets for Hugo Boss. The resulting stream of cash flow allowed the company to prosper at a previously unknown level.
The melange of high-quality men's fashion made from Italian wool, silk, linen, or cotton in cutting-edge designs, in connection with massive advertising campaigns and clever product placement, made Hugo Boss the trend setter for a new generation of young, ambitious businessmen. After the Boss suit had conquered Western Europe, the apparel maker made the crucial step across the Atlantic. While the unknown German label was met with skepticism when the first Boss suits hit the stores in the United States in 1976, its acceptance grew steadily. Popularized by the testimonials of physically fit and handsome men such as star actor Sylvester Stallone, top athletes such as the five-time Wimbledon tennis champion Bjorn Borg, and the "swaggering, stubble-cheeked cops of television's Miami Vice in its signature palette of Baskin-Robbins pastels"--as described in Forbes by Joshua Levine--the Hugo Boss look represented the image of the successful professional with a hint of macho. For the youngsters who could not yet afford the broad-shouldered $400 to $500 Boss power suits, the company started making more casual wear such as sweaters and sports jackets in the mid-1980s.
In 1980, Hugo Boss passed the DM 100 million sales mark for the first time. Five years later the company went public, and concentrated on expanding geographically. Only one year after its initial public offering (IPO), Hugo Boss was worth more than the rest of the German men's wear manufacturers combined. By 1987, Hugo Boss grossed DM 500 million annually, reaching almost DM 1 billion by the end of the decade. At the peak of the company's success, in 1989, the Holy brothers sold a big chunk of the Hugo Boss shares to the Japanese Leyton House Group but remained actively involved in the firm's management. In 1991, the Italian fashion giant Marzotto became Hugo Boss's new parent company. Two years later, the Holy brothers, who had made Hugo Boss into Germany's largest manufacturer of men's wear and a leading force in the global high-fashion industry, retired from Hugo Boss management but kept running a couple of Holy's upscale men's wear designer stores in Munich and Stuttgart which remained under the umbrella of the Hugo Boss group.

    Smile Vera Wang

    For the Ladies

Princess Perfume by Vera Wang, This extraordinary fragrance was created by Vera Wang. Its sexy scent includes a mixture of water lily, apple, mandarin meringue, and golden apricot skin, dark chocolate, amber, musk, and vanilla.

    For the Gents

Vera Wang Cologne by Vera Wang, Warm, inviting, seductive, sophisticated are a few words to describe vera wang for men. Launched in 2004 by the famous design house of Vera Wang. The top notes are: yuzu and green mandarin leaf which smoothly transitions to the middle notes of nutmeg, leather, anise. The bottom finishes off with sandalwood, tobacco.

History and background of Vera Wang :Vera Wang was born in New York in 1949, to Chinese parents who had fled the Communist revolution. She had originally dreamed of being an Olympic figure skater, but when she did not make the team in 1968, she went to the Sorbonne, in Paris and to Sarah Lawrence College in the USA, to study. She has a BA in Liberal Arts. In 1970, on graduating, Vera became the youngest editor ever at Vogue magazine. She remained there for 17 years till 1987. When she left Vogue, she worked with Ralph LAUREN for 2 years. In 1990, she opened her own house on Madison Avenue, New York, designing bridal wear and evening gowns. In 1994, she started her own label. These bridal gowns are what Vera Wang is famous for. She uses rich fabrics such as silk lace and duchesses satin, in the tradition of Paris couture and applies them to the simple shapes associated with American sportswear, like the vest dress. Her appreciation of surface decoration, particularly beading, and the use of net to give the illusion of bare skin, have also recommended her for the design of Olympic figure-skating costumes - so bringing her back full-circle to her childhood dreams. Nancy Kerrigan wore her costume in the 1994 Winter Olympics. Her clientele list is very long, especially for Oscar night. She has made wedding dresses for numerous celebrities including Mariah Carey for her wedding to Tommy Mottola in 1993. Cate Blanchett picked up her Golden Globe for "Elizabeth" in a beaded black Wang dress. Uma Thurman, Posh Spice, Alicia Silverstone, and Sharon Stone and Elisabeth Shue are all her loyal clients.

    Smile Estee Lauder

Todays selection of fragerances is from the design house of Estee Lauder. For pricing info insert name of cologne and or perfume in the search bar above

    For the Ladies

Beautiful Perfume by Estee Lauder, Launched by the design house of Estee Lauder in 1985, Beautiful is classified as a sharp, flowery fragrance. This feminine scent possesses a blend of blooming fresh cut flowers, rose, jasmine, and carnation. Accompanied by fruity notes of fresh citrus, melons, peaches and plums. It is recommended for daytime wear.

    For the Gents

Lauder Cologne by Estee Lauder, Lauder by Estee Lauder was introduced in 1985 as a woody scent for men. This masculine scent possesses a blend of lemon, mandarin, greens, herbs and spies. Following with patchouli, sandalwood and finishing off with oakmoss amber and musk. Lauder is alluring and manly.

    1920s--50s: Development of an Entrepreneur
Estée Lauder was born Josephine Esther Mentzer in Corona, Queens, New York, in 1908, the ninth child of Rose and Max Mentzer, who had emigrated from Hungary to the United States. Regarding her interest in cosmetics, which originated in childhood, Lauder reportedly recalled: "I loved to make everyone up.... I was always interested in people being beautiful ... [people] who look like they have a cared-for face."
Lauder was first inspired to enter the business of cosmetics when her uncle, John Schotz, a chemist from Hungary, established New Way Laboratories in Brooklyn in 1924. Her uncle's products included a Six-in-One Cold Cream, Dr. Schotz Viennese Cream, and several perfumes. Lauder got her start by selling these products in New York City and then, from 1939 to 1942, in Miami Beach as well.
In 1944 Lauder began working in various New York salons and smaller department stores, selling her own product line from behind a counter. Of that original line, three skin creams were her uncle's creations. Lauder also sold a face powder, an eye shadow, and a lipstick called Just Red. Soon the entrepreneur was spending Saturdays selling her products on the floor in Bonwit Teller department store on Fifth Avenue. Lauder's next goal was to get her items into Saks Fifth Avenue. She convinced the Saks buyer that there was a demand for her products after a successful lecture and demonstration at the Waldorf Astoria that prompted customers to line up outside for more product information. One unique aspect of Lauder's products would remain a classic Estée Lauder approach over the years; the fledgling cosmetics dynamo was selling lipsticks in upscale metal cases at a time, just after World War II, when most lipsticks were packaged in plastic.
The year Estée Lauder got started, women's cosmetics was a $7 million business in the United States. The Saks connection helped Lauder achieve a reputation that would allow her to sell her products nationally. Beginning in the late 1940s, Estée Lauder traveled the country, making personal appearances in specialty and department stores and training staff in proper sales techniques. She made impressions on influential people early on, securing a spot in I. Magnin's of San Francisco, a store well-respected in the retail trade. I. Magnin's carried Lauder's products exclusively in the San Francisco area until the late 1970s. During these early years, Lauder met buyers all over the country and others in the business who would later help her achieve success.
Against the advice of their lawyer, Lauder and her husband entered full-scale into an industry known for extreme market swings and short-lived endeavors. Joseph Lauder worked every day at the small space they had rented, while their oldest son, Leonard, made deliveries to Saks and other stores on his bicycle.
One technique that Estée Lauder pioneered, now standard in the cosmetics industry, was the gift-with-purchase offer. Lauder first began offering free sample items with any purchase to bring the customer back for more. Later, free products were made available to customers who made purchases of a specified minimum dollar amount. Lauder's gift-with-purchase offer gained her a loyal following and helped establish her business. Over the years, however, this practice would lead to markedly low profit margins in the cosmetic industry as a whole and at Lauder's company in particular.
The 1953 Debut of Youth Dew
Early in the 1950s, with $50,000 saved from business profits, Lauder began looking for an advertising representative. After learning that the amount was hardly enough to finance a full-scale campaign, she chose to begin advertising with the help of Saks Fifth Avenue's direct-mail program. The company's advertising budget would soon grow considerably, with the introduction of a new product.
Lauder reunited in the early 1950s with a fragrance executive she had met a decade earlier in order to develop a perfume. Following the examples of Helena Rubenstein and Elizabeth Arden, who had both made their starts in skin care and then moved on to fragrances, Lauder developed a bath oil with a fragrance that lasted for 24 hours. She called the bath oil Youth Dew and introduced it in 1953 at $8.50 a bottle.
With Youth Dew Estée Lauder became an overnight success. "Middle America went bananas for it," stated former employee Andy Lucarelli, as quoted in Estée Lauder: Beyond the Magic. Youth Dew sales reached an unprecedented volume of 5,000 units a week in the mid-1950s. Furthermore, sales of skin care products increased due to the popularity of Youth Dew. Thirty years later, the fragrance still had sales of $30 million worldwide.
In 1958, 24-year-old Leonard Lauder joined the company. That year he married Evelyn Hausner, a Vienna-born schoolteacher who would later rise in the company and eventually take over for Estée Lauder herself, making appearances as company spokesperson.
In the early 1960s, Estée Lauder joined Rubenstein, Arden, Revlon, and Cosmetiques in the race to develop a skin care cream like the European products that were becoming popular during this time. Estée Lauder's Re-Nutriv--a careful blend of 25 ingredients--was introduced in a well-orchestrated marketing program typical of most Estée Lauder ventures. Advertisers were careful not to make specific claims regarding the product's ability to revitalize skin or eliminate wrinkles, as such claims could get a cosmetics company into regulatory trouble. A full-page Harper's Bazaar ad simply read: "What makes a cream worth $115.00?" The expensive product generated lots of free press for the company.

Cool To Sell or Not to Sell

Normally on Sundays I give myself a break from the auctions. I find it amazing that with all of the efforts expended to offer great products at great prices that unfortunately this to me has become more of a social site than a sales site. It seems that people are computer looking at the products available but what does one have to do to get a sale? If you are in the market for a particular cologne or perfume simply type the name in the start new search section and if my price isn't the best available I will give you a $3.00 discount on that product when purchased from me. Play the price game and make me send you the $3.00.
