    Question Chili seed germination

How long it takes for chili seed to germinate? Can it be done in a paper towel like tomato seed?

I am not a gardener, but I would expect that if it works with a tomato seed, it would with chili. why not just give it a try? And post the result!

I plant mine in seed compost in a pot - just lightly cover the seed - use a propogater if you have one - or I've had success on a sunny window sill. I have also heard it is best to water from the top with a spray bottle. Different varieties take different times to germinate, some up to six weeks, so don't give up on them!

    Hi
This info is quite common for many types of chili seed:

    Sowing Instructions
Sow March to April. Place seed on the surface of a free-draining compost and cover with a fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place in a propagator at 18-21C (65-20F) until after germination, which takes 7-10 days. Do not exclude light as this helps germination.

    Growing Instructions
Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) pots. Plant in final situation when plants are 10cm (4in) high, 45cm (18in) apart.

For indoor crops, plant into growbags or pots.

For outdoor crops, acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions for a few days before planting in sunny, fertile, moist, well drained soil, after all risk of frost.

    Aftercare
Feed plants weekly with a high potash tomato fertiliser once first fruits have set.

3 have shown their head up from soil and I am happy. Lettuce were very fast though.

How do you grow seeds on a paper towel? I can picture that you keep the towel moist, but what do you do after the seeds sprout? Maybe I am totally misunderstanding the process. Could you explain it for a person who knows nothing about it? Thanks
