Thread: Antique Postcards

  1. #1

    Question Antique Postcards

I had found a small stack of antique postcards in my garage I had forgot I had. Some look as old as the turn of the century. (1900s)
Where can I go to try to date them since alot of them are not dated or used with a postal mark to know.
I can guess where most of them are from though.

Any help would be appreciated. I would like to sell them, but have no idea what old post cards are worth generally.

    Thanks!
    Tammy

    Hi Tammy

I see you are in the USA; you don't say whether the postcards you found are American or not but if they are, this site may be of use to you in trying to date them.

It is not necessarily the age of the cards that make them valuable as so many were produced in the first half of the 20th century. It is the type of card and the scene they show that make the difference. Anyway have a look at this site I have quoted above and I am sure it will give you some useful information if they are American cards that you have.

Thanks, that does help some. I have some of the "real photo" post cards. Most of them are from the USA, but a few are from Europe. Germany, Holland are the ones I know at quick glance.
What is the best way to assess the value of each one? Is there a site/forum that I can refer to?
OR can I take some pictures and maybe some of you can help me?

    Thanks

You can get postcard catalogues which give you postcard values. Or perhaps you should post a few on here?

Yes.. very much so. Many Museums and Colleges/Universitys also share photos and info related with Postcards.
You just have to take the time to find url's.
