Have any of you read We Have to Talk About Kevin? I was actually a bit stunned by this book - the topic of course, but the honestly of the writing (especially for a novel), the clarity of the complex characters, and the unfolding story - quite impressed, if mildly disturbed still.
This is a novel, written as letters to a husband, about their son, Kevin. It begins with us understanding that Kevin has murdered several of his school mates. But the chapters go back to before Kevin was born and take us through his imprisonment with periodic 'in the present' comments. I'm amazed anyone could write this without some very intimate knowledge of just this sort of thing.
Spinoza's The Ethics
as well as his: Treatise On The Improvement of the Understanding
Had read them long ago and recently re-read them. They are a conformation of the pantheism that is part of my life.

I think these books really give you fuel for thought. I think having a positive attitude is so important with all that is going on in the world now.
