Thread: New washing machine and soap nuts

  1. #1

Default New washing machine and soap nuts

Hi I started using soap nuts instead of powder in my washing some months ago. The time has come for a new machine as our old one has started leaking during filling and it is quite old so I expect it is not very green.

Looking at efficient machines none of them mention soap nuts but the ultra efficient ones apparently have sensors to detect amount of detergents etc. Does anyone know if using soap nuts with these machines is going to confuse them?

Can anyone who uses soap nuts recommend an efficient machine they have bought sometime over the last year or so?

    Thanks for any help.

I can't answer your questions directly, but maybe you could email manufacturers with this. They may not have considered that people use an 'alternative' detergent

you can boil the soapnuts..and make liquid detergent..then add to the drawer...shouldnt make any difference then i would have thought..

Thanks for the advice, both of you.

We actually ended up with only a A rated machine. The A+ and A++ were way more expensive than what we wanted to spend, I realised. I am sure the one we have does not have detergent sensors. and have done one wash in it so far with the nuts and its fine.

Bur thanks again for your advice!

you can just buy small samples from the people that sell them and see for yourself.

And then buy them in quantity if you like them,

    Personally I recommend them.

When I ran out of washing powder recently and couldn't be bothered to drive to the next village for some more, I washed for a few days without any powder.

Can't say I noticed a difference in the cleanliness of the clothes. I've gone back to using washing powder though, but just a tiny amount. And I never use fabric softener. They all smell of chemicals.
