With toys you have Toys & hobbies, then you also have a category for toys in the Collectible section.

Take oldintheattic avatar pic do you really think that , that Antique Royal Worchester set of around 1923? would be well placed in a category amongst load of modern day cheap China that was run off a chinese production line last month?

IMO there should be a section with the Antiques & Collectibles categories ( in particular the Antiques category) for china & porcelaine..

I as a buyer if looking to buy Antiques, would browse through the Antiques section looking for something that catches my eye..
If I am looking for something specific I will then put a brand name in the search.

Surely if there is a china and porcelain sub-cat. in collectables, it would not mean that one had to be removed elsewhere?

Most people know exactly what they are trying to sell, and would put it in the appropriate category, as there would be no advantage to putting it in the wrong one.

If china & porcelain was put back into collectables, there would be no point having it as a top level category anymore, there just wouldn't be enough items to warrant it.

When it was set up it was to keep everything together.
If you read the original thread, once more items were added then the categories were going to be revised to accomodate both modern & older items.

I have read the original thread.
I have also read posts on other sites where posters have stated that there is nothing to be found on ebid in the way of Antique & Collectible china & porcelaine.
Moorcroft was one of the Antique items mentioned.

I can understand why those posters on other sites are under that misapprehension, its because the Antique China etc is not where they would expect to find it as per the norm on other sites.

Ebid as grown a lot over the last year or so, so categories that were small / short of items at that particular time would not neccessarily be short of items now.

I will obviously have to accept the categories as they are now.
I Will keep on selling the majority of my items here on ebid, clothing & accessories.
For my Antique items left to me by my mother, Grandmother etc I will find a specialist site to sell them on.

The difference in the amount of collectables and porcelain being sold now and what was being sold then is significant.

I do not understand why Porcelain & China can't be a main category and at the same time, be a sub cat in Antiques and in Collectables.

Again, I will not shop for these items on eBid because I do not want to wade through thousands of pieces of "made in Hong Kong" China to find antique pieces of Royal Worcester or Vintage/antique Royal Doulton.

If I am looking for a specific piece it still comes up within the masses.

As a seller, I try to look at things through the eyes of a buyer and to make browsing as easy and stress free as possible. The way these categories are set right now, it isn't a welcoming climate.

This sounds like Teddy in the corner stuff! Search.. you have two easy key words there which would eliminate anything but the products of the correct factories.

PS where are the thousands of cheap Far eastern china items? I can't see them (I accept that I may be looking in the wrong place)

    oldintheattic.

I remembered there was a 3 somewhere in the date for that Worchester set, also it was a lot older than I am.

    Madelaine.

I made a suggestion that the Antiques & Collectibles also have China added, gave my reasons. which I still stand by.
Obviously 2 posters disagree with my suggestion, so we will have to agree to disagree.

I wont be throwing my teddy out of the pram.
But I will look for a site that caters for Antique china within the Antiques category.

I tried to find that thread on the other site, where a poster stated that there was next to nothing in the way of Antiques & collectibles to be found here, then stated he found Moorcroft where he didnt expect it to be.

If that poster could not find the items easily, other buyers may have the same problem finding the Antiques & Collectibles they wish to purchase..

Have you seen how many threads mentioning ebid are over there.
