Default Is this really an Edinburgh Crystal thistle item?

Hello. I am not a knowledgeable glass collector. I have a clear glass item that I think is beautiful and have been scouring around the internet looking for its official name. I THINK it's from the Edinburgh Crystal company in the Thistle pattern but i can't find this particular item at their website nor anywhere else on the web. It is a two piece thing and I'm wondering if it's some kind of candle lamp, although it seems a danger or risk to light a flame inside such a beautiful piece. If it is for candles, what is it called? A fairy lamp?

Also, because i can't find it on the Edinburgh Crystal website, I'm wondering if it's some kind of knockoff? There is a small text logo etched (I believe it's etched) on the underside of the base piece. I've tried to show it in picture #4.

Thank you in advance for any wisdom you can give.

Hm. Since I'm using a proxy to get to eBid, it looks like I can't attach photos. Try these direct links:

Pic 4 looks like 'made in Edinburgh' and in pic 3 the glassware on the right looks like the right Thistle pattern. The etching on the base looks ok to me and all the first quality stuff would have had that mark.

This might not be on the current Edinburgh site (I think the old company went bust and the 'International' mob took over) and I can't remember how old the pattern is. I do know that pieces in that pattern are expensive - have been outbid on several occasions.

Lucky you to have it - I'd have thought there'd be a strong market for it (Scottish glass, jewellery and pottery) in the USA.

Just had another look at all the pics - that is a really unusual piece. Don't be in a hurry to sell it until you get more info.

I'm not an expert on glass but I would say it's a votive candle holder and in my opinion if it was rare/expensive I would say the 'made in' wouldn't be etched as it is. I would suggest a repro but then again I MAY BE WRONG

Try looking up Waterford as I have this feeling...I don't know just a feeling! I'd be interested to know the outcome.

    Good Luck.

It's definately Edinburgh Crystal, Thistle design
"A classic design which has remained largely unchanged for more than a century, Thistle displays the exceptional skill and quality for which Edinburgh Crystal is renowned. The highly distinctive shapes are embellished with a complex geometric pattern and delicate engraving. An authentic heritage range with enduring quality and appeal."

This is a whiskey glass from the current range
