Default Use of literal @ in listing html

Came across a strange effect when trying to paste in a html template for a listing. In the text I used something like 'Video Card @ 1024 x 768'. The use of the @ (at) character totally blew the listing apart when displayed by eBid. I have no idea why it should do this - it looked fine in my html editor. I could maybe have fixed it by encoding the character rather than using a literal but opted for just spelling out 'at' and avoiding it altogether.

Any reason why '@' should be a kiss of death to an eBid listing?

May be wrong but I would imagine '@' is one of the things the email stripping software looks for.

CMEJewellery For all your jewellery needs.

    Beads 'n' Bobs For beads.

Charms 'n' Findings For charms and jewellery making supplies.

I did consider that but @ by itself does not form an email address. It must be some pretty shoddy checking software if it totally wrecks a listing just because it contains that character.
