Anyone know
I've been having trouble with my DVD writer and despite reinstalling the software, it is now firing up Windows Installer each time it boots up, it then asks for a file that doesn't exist in the temporary location that it obviously created and it's not on the software install disk either!
I assume there must be a flag somewhere that kicks this into life when it starts, does anyone know how I can stop it.

try finding the file on the internet Ken, just point the installer to the file location when it asks
Make sure you're up to date with Windows Update, completely uninstall the DVD drivers and any burning software that you installed, reboot, then re-install the DVD drivers and software. Worth a try.
Also run a thorough disk scan (tick both boxes so that it will schedule a disk check for the next reboot).
