Hi all, does anyone know the actual name of those knitting needles with no ends - that we use for knitting necks and socks etc. I want to list a bunch today but don't know what to call them
thank you!

I could tell you what it is in German, but that's no help. Why not list them as a set of 4? Maybe adding for knitting in rounds. Any knitter would know what you mean. But someone else might come up with the correct term
just did a knitting needle search and found 'double pointed set of 4...' so maybe there is no special term
Thank you!

now *thats* an original name for them!
Jan, aren't your legs getting tired yet?
and Meebo, how about your arms, that gun has got to be getting heavy. Oh I found a good smiley for you today.
It's a chocolate gun, gramma, so very light. But don't tell anyone!!
The short double point or open end needles are cable needles. They're usually any length up to 6 inch. The longer cable and shorter double point are sometimes used in sock or stocking knitting so they are sometimes referred to by that name.
I hope this helps.
Depends on what type they are!
Fairly fine ( up to about size 10 'old sizes') and usually 9 inches long or under, are 'sock needles' - often come in sets of 6.
Very short ( up to about 4 inches) - any thickness, are 'cable needles' - come singly
Everything else (ie Longer or Fatter) are 'double-ended needles. - usually in sets of 4
