well thats about all I needed, it looks to be a wedding box, or document box, with the two cocks on the top, it very well could be wedding , Maybe Latvian or Ukrianian

I dont think the Islamic train of thought will work on that one

    hope that helps

well your right, the detail looks wonderful, but many countries do that type of carving, but they did get to see it in there hands. So maybe it is Islamic, but I still think either document box, or Wedding box,
still either way a very fine piece of work ! !

As stated above, its a lovely box. I would personally tend to think its of 19th century, Anglo-Indian Origin particulay with the parrots and cockerels on the actual box. Also the feet and the raised top is similar to designs ive seen. Towards the end of the 19th century there was a Anglo-Asian Movement, so perhaps it dates around there or earlier

Im not sure on it being a wedding box, it does actually look like a Bible box to myself and these were used to store bibles, as well as documents (as suggested by myjunk).......

It is a really nice box, any chance of seeing some images of the inside

I was wondering how others could tell what they did from your pictures, but see you have edited them. They are great now, I still don't know the answer, but others have given good suggestions.
