They are selling old used government stuff and seized property. Looks like the membership is for buyers only. I would bet the designer doesn't know about us. Or maybe didn't think it would be big enough to catch anyone's attention

Oh the terms and conditions for registration says

"All payments must be in the form of a Cashier’s Check made payable to:
The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County
    "

Maybe some one should drop them a line and ask them to put a link to the real Ebid.

Definitely think someone should have a chat with them, but only the owners of the Ebid brand can complain at them. and if it isnt a registered trademark, it'll be harder to fight em. I'd suggest getting ebid logos and name trademarked and then would have stronger ground to stand on.. but again, it is up to the ownership to do that.. we cant do anything, legally, unless someone is a lawyer and offers to represent ebid pro bono

It would also depend on how long they have been using the logo. - The current eBid.net logo is about 2 or 3 years old, having replaced a blue/yellow colour scheme; so it could be .net that have inadvertantly mirrored the other logo.

It's a mile away from the current logo, what's the problem?

    same name.
trademarking a business name & logos is important if the business is skyrocketing like ebid.

[e] .com is more of a problem.

ebid (the name) is used by a variety of sites - as long as there's no risk of "passing off" I don't think there's much to be done. They'd need to have got in *first*, and that didn't happen.

i've accidentally gone into the .com site several times.

ebid.net has experienced phenomenal growth; they have a distinctive name/logo combo that would merit trademarking. You are allowed to submit an application in the USA if you are not a lawyer, but it's better to work with an attorney who specializes in that area.
