I agree with you Madelaine. Various people point out that changes to a site are more complex than most lay folk suppose. This is true, but neglects the fact that changes do not all involve the same amount of effort and testing. Some things that seem simple to users can actually require weeks of effort. Some very definitely don't.

In particular, although I've not been anal enough to look whether the flashing r's involve a 'blink' tag or are animated gif's, either way they are, by any experienced programmer's reckoning, about a 5 minute job to fix. An hour if you're an extreme pessimist (though I'd be looking to fire someone who took that long).

So the conclusion is obvious: G&M like the flashing r's. They'll still be there after the redesign.

I'm certain it is a five minute job ... ok maybe ten minutes, but it really shouldm't be difficult at all.

You could even be really lazy and just change the colour to white so we can't see them on a white background

As I haven't programmed for a while I hesitated to say this, but, yes, 5 minutes - the gif is stored in one address - stick something which doesn't flash in that address - problem solved!

G&M (and the rest of ebid) may LIKE the expletive deleted things but they are BAD!

I'm certain you're right Madelaine, as I say, the lazy way would just be to change the colour to white (or whatever the background is) you could even leave the blue ones blue (when there are multiple bids on something) because they would stand out more BUT there shouldn't be all these flashing r's in any colour.

Showing the bids would be space better used than completely unnecessary flashing r gifs.
