Default The value of old books.

Is there an online resource where I can check how much a specific book may be worth? Perhaps one of you is a book dealer?
I can usually gain a good idea from a dozen or more book websites but I have one which may possibly be worth putting into a traditional book auction. The only mention of its existence on the W3 is a digitised version from a copy 60 years younger than mine.

http://www.abebooks.com You could try here but remember you would be lucky to get these prices.

Yeah, Spyder, I use abebooks as a quick reference but double check on alibris. It's amusing to find price differences on scarce books.

I've found Addall to be the most comprehensive site for checking on books. It has all the listings from ABE, Amazon, Alibris and a few more as well.

Yes, thanks, these are some of the sites I know about already - also "Bookbutler" sometimes useful.
I have never yet got to grips with how there can be such massive differences in the prices being asked. The same book can be £1 or £100.
Trouble is, I've looked "everywhere" and this book simply isn't listed.
Perhaps if I gave some details, somebody could give me some ideas -
Name: CAII SILII ITALICA PVNICORVM, Libri Septemdecim, E Recensione Arnoldi Drakenborch, Cvravit et Glossarivm Latinitatis Adiecit Iohannes Petrvs Schmidivs
Published in 1775 or as it says inside: CI?I?CCLXXV
(Question mark substituting for a funny backwards facing C that I can't find in "character map")
It's a sort of poetry book in Latin.
The digitised version on GOO*** Books is from 1834 and the Latin "V" has been changed to a normal "U" in the name.

    Thanks for the 'heads-up' cat.

The thing to remember when looking at any site to compare prices is that those you are seeing *haven't* sold*.

I'm afraid 1775 is out of my comfort zone, so no help here, sorry.

Ah well, perhaps this is one that warrants a trip or emails to a few Olde Booke Shoppes.

Yes, wizbooks, that's the one I use, too. Bookfinder.com is one of the best.

To the OP: Can you tell us what the name of this book is along with date of publication? Maybe one of us could help you locate a comparable value...just a thot!
