Great idea but I would think the cost will be dear! Unless all the shop/store owners get to gether and donate a small sum into a kitty it would benifit all. this is what a lot of local shops shopping centre do, all get together and chip in. Same as the big craft centre's. I would be quite happy to donate to advertising, Think about it even a couple of pounds a year should be plenty. I do understand already paying small fees for certain things and one off payment, Dont think it will cover these type of costings. Ken
Advertising in the tabloids as with the local rags is like peeing in the wind. eBid needs the tabloids to run a good editorial with eBid major accounts buying advertising space in the editorial, or a good head line like. “1000s flock to eBid from other major auction sites “ or eBid striking a blow for sellers over choices of on site payment methods” if it gets syndicated the TV are likely to pick it up as a news worthy issue as well but you need a pro to write the media spin for the tv interview and a good person to front it.
If everyone talked to 1 each day that did not know about ebid. This site will be huge by the end of this year. Try to tell 1 new one each and every day. Together we can do it.
Its one thing telling someone about eBid its another getting them to change their habits and making their browser home page eBid.
Thats why energy suppliers are still ripping their customers off, banks are doing the same perhaps in these instances people are frightened of change or just to lethargic to make the effort, in the case of supermarkets they think their choice of supplier gives the best buys, and in the case of the huge diy stores they thing they are so big they must be cheap which in reality is far from the truth the odd bargain my be had.
The days of the true Wholesaler have gone I do not know of many, who will not sell over the trade counter to retail, it may be not at full trade but still well discounted.
If this site attracts the right sellers offers the right bargains and incentitives you do not have to tell people about it they will find it. When something is good everyone wants a piece of the action.
It is not the banks, supermarkets, energy suppliers and so that are smart it is the buyers that are foolish.

As I am slowly selling up what we have in England in preperation for a move overseas. My bank has noticed that my current acount has had a bit of extra cash in it, I have had a call advising me for a small fee they could sell me another of their services (which I am not interested in) as the calls are recorded for so called training I just reply "thank you for bringing that to my attention I will withdraw the excess immediatly" a few months later the same again happened so they got the same answer. My bank has not tried to sell me anything for a long time since our last conversation, my wife is with the same bank and she still recieves the regular sales call from the bank. I ask if we could have dinner a bit later so the call comes just about as we are about to sit down to dinner. When the phone rings "I say its for you I think" I feel the bank is in for a shock!
There was a resent report here in the U.S. that the FDIC will only insure up to 100,000 anything over that amount will only be 50 cents on the dollar. Not quite sure but your bank may be trying to protect you.

Advertising is only one part of marketing and one advert in a national newspaper, that was not properly supported by other advertising in either local or specialist journals, press releases and promotions such as competitions would be a waste of time and money. On the other hand, the suggestion of promoting Ebid by word of mouth could be a great success; so many people mention Ebay as the automatic choice for internet auctions that there are limitless opportunities to let them know that an alternative exists. And not only in the 'real' world; I belong to a couple of internet car forums that each have an 'Ebaywatch' thread, not quite 'Ebidwatch' yet but I'm working on it.
