I have noticed that certain punctuation doesn't work here though - Angela's Ashes was one example - nothing comes up in

This one was mentioned elsewhere - the search really doesn't cope with punctuation, does it? And I notice than if you use an apostrophe in the forums you get told it's a spelling mistake! For searching you can get round it by putting your search value in double quotes... but how many buyers are going to think of that?

searches, but there are several copies listed. If you take out the apostrophe in Angela's in your listing, it shows up in searches (even if you search with the apostrophe)! So now I'm taking out extra punctuation in the title, but putting it in the description. It gives me a few more spaces too.
That's a very neat idea... I'm just not sure I can get past my apostrophe geekiness to do it! I don't mind putting in a misspelt or mispunctuated version as well as the right one, that can be very useful, but rather defeats your idea of saving space.

What I mean Kimbo, is that in the title I take out the punctuation for the search engine (makes me cringe too), but in the description I repeat the title, author, etc., but put the punctuation back in. The only place I need to save space is the title, so that works quite well.

Yep, that's what I understood. Just not sure I can get past the cringe.

Oops sorry, thought you were thinking I put both in the title so wasn't saving any space!
Maybe tell yourself this is what it takes for someone to find the very book they have been looking for - would that get you past the cringe?

No sorry, I was saying that *I* sometimes put both versions in the title, so don't save any space. I knew exactly what I meant, why didn't you have your psychic powers tuned in? I promise I'll try to suppress my cringe-reflex.

LOL Well, it seems our discussion is now pointless has Gazza has fixed the bug that meant apostrophes weren't matched. Hurrah!

As an update to listing books - I've seen that many new book sellers are transferring their listings from other sites and in that process lose the authors name (different set ups for the bulk listings). So even if the title is common, it may be the best way to search as adding an author may eliminate some of the available books.
