Default New to Ebid wishing to upgrade to seller status

    Hi guys and girls,

I have come here from 'over the road' as a disgruntled seller. I want to use the free seller option here on Ebid (just to start with) but when i upgrade from a buyer to seller it still ask for card details that you have to submit.

I am always a bit dubious about submitting card details when something is supposed to be free.

Can someone confirm that i wont be charged.

    Many Thanks

Hi Simone, unlike certain websites eBid try to keep out the scammers, by checking people's identities. When you register you are asked for your name, address and phone number. The card will be tested to check it's validity, but there are no charges made untill you sell something. When this happens the amount owed will bea taken from the account.

By the way if you are going to be offering bank transfer (BACS) it is best to use a savings account rather than a current account.

    Good Luck

    Thank you Lofty,

I will be registering a card just wanted to clear that up first

I noted sellers can accept BACS, why is it best to use a savings account?

Yes Simone using a savings account probably would be a good plan. Alternatively if you are jumpy about using bank transfers one alternative on-line payment is http://new.egg.com Eggay is a free payment system available to UK residents; the major advantage is that there are no account details passing between users. The buyer adds the money to their eggpay account (approx 3-4 days) then e-mails the seller giving them a password. The seller then logs-in to his/her own account and enters the password, the money is then transferred (3-4 days). Slower but much more secure. Good Luck

The fee to upgrade is well worth the expense. Says crazymama.

    Lofty - that is interesting.

My TSB Lloyd's savings account doesn't take BACS - they told me they would charge to set it up.
My Lloyds Gold account is where all mine go - and then I transfer them to the savings a/c!
    Ridiculous!!
