New SLG Publishing Merchandise Debuts Just In Time For Comic-Con!

In addition to having creators on hand for signing duty, SLG Publishing will have a number of new and classic merchandise available at Comic-Con. From posters, t-shirts, to figurines, SLG Publishing will have incredible items for sale, such as a brand new Jhonen Vasquez (Johnny the Homicidal Maniac) poster and the incredibly popular Map of Humanity by James Turner (Rex Libris).

Jhonen Vasquez’ latest print, titled Ambush at Prayer Time, is a brand new creation that took Vazquez days to create. This will be Vasquez’ latest project with SLG since last year’s Jellyfist with artist Jenny Goldberg.

Speaking of Goldberg, SLG Publishing will also have a Jellyfist poster (Head Full of Bees) and two t-shirts featuring her work for sale at the convention. While her Jellyfist collaborator Vasquez will not be able to make the convention, Goldberg will be available for autographs.

SLG Publishing will also have James Turner’s (creator of the critically acclaimed Rex Libris) Map of Humanity, the infamous map that crashed the SLG servers after it was featured on Digg. “It is an attempt to map the last six thousand years of human history and thought upon a theoretical geography to discover a sense of what kind of civilization humanity has attained,” says Turner, “the continents of this restructuring rest upon the sea of the unconscious, the stormy basis of our thought. The land that emerges from it is broken into three main continents, each related to an aspect of the human mind: superego, ego, and id.”

This giant 24 by 36 map is printed to order on a 12 color large format printer using archival quality inks and is printed on heavyweight coated paper, making it suitable for framing.

Last, but definitely not least, you can be sure that SLG Publishing will be representing their classic line of creations with Evan Dorkin’s Milk & Cheese vinyl figurines. Due to limited distribution last year, this will be the first Comic-Con that many people will be able to see them for the first time. Make sure to stop by the booth for more!

SLG Publishing Launches New Web Comics Website!
New Java Town Stories To Debut!

SLG Publishing will be launching a brand new section on their website dedicated to web comics, giving readers access to free, original web comics starting on July 24th. "SLG has always been committed to being a part of as many methods of distribution as possible," says SLG President and Publisher Dan Vado, "starting a web comics section which would feature original content is part of helping build brand awareness for both us as a company and the individual cartoonists we publish as well. Having that content be free is key to getting new or under-appreciated artists in front more eyes and helping us to get people to buy their work."

In order to mark this milestone, Scott Saavedra (Dr. Radium) will be creating all new original stories set in his Java Town universe.

Fans of Java Town may recall that its previous incarnation was in the form of six issues published from 1992-1996 by SLG Publishing. The actual Java Town stories featured in these six issues were "about a doomed love affair in an over-the-top coffee-centric 50s-esque world," as Saavedra puts it. Over the course of its six issues, Java Town evolved into a pseudo magazine full of fake ads and esoteric commentary. "Java Town was a strange beast," admits Saavedra, "each issue featured random, often coffee-focused, comic strips including a regular Java Town strip about the trials and tribulations of a coffee-loving character named Joe. Each issue would also contain odd news, strange vintage ephemera, and random tid-bits. It was very idiosyncratic--sort of a blog but on paper."

In its new format, Java Town will be focusing strictly on the comic strip aspect that involves Joe and his coffee-loving adventures.

Java Town will debut next Thursday, July 24th with a four page installment, followed by an update every Wednesday.

SLG Publishing is a San Jose, CA based publisher of comic books, graphic novels and related merchandise. Established in 1986 some of SLG's more notable comics and creators have included Johnny the Homicidal Maniac by Jhonen Vasquez, Lenore by Roman Dirge, Milk & Cheese by Evan Dorkin and Zombies Calling by Faith Erin Hicks.

By the creator of BEAR and UBU BUBU comes Space Raoul. Part adventurer, part explorer and part space captain and all-around CHAP, Raoul is the upholder of all that is good in the universe. Serialized in the pages of The Dandy and with a few online strips, Space Raoul is the reddest space hero of all time.
Equipped with just a small spaceship and his trusty green lump of a sidekick, Quibble, Space Raoul's adventures take him from one crazed situation to the next, as he struggles to keep evil in a headlock. Scampering about in his unique condescending manner, Raoul inevitably makes matters far worse before they get better. And if they don't get better, he can always run away.

Space Raoul has been making appearances in The Sunday Times comic supplement (The Funday Times) for nearly three years, and national children's comic The Dandy for the last year, and in that time has gathered a strong following of both grown ups and children alike.

SPACE RAOUL will be featured at the PREVIEWS ONLINE website and an add for the book will be run on the back side of the Diamond Preview Pull out order form
