A kindle is not for me, I like to turn a page and lots of books on my bookcase to work through.
    Hi babushka.
If you need to read during this lockdown, have a look at the free promotions on kobo. they are free until at least the end of April. try 'Three years in starch' a nurses autobiography covering nurse training in UK from 1959 -'62. or its sequel' Following the drum - a story of nursing on three continents.

I am revisiting The Hobbit. It's one of the books we had to read in school when I was about 11 years old.

Thankfully, I have always loved books so having this book read out in class as part of English Literature, didn't put me off.

Hello Celticqueen thanks for the info but I am a technophobe and don't own a Kobo, I had never even heard of one until Tony41 said he had one, hopefully he will take advantage of the offer. Call me old fashioned but I prefer to hold a book therefore have a bookcase full of books to work my way through.

Think if I had one I would not get much reading done as I fall asleep sometimes looking at the screen on my laptop so try not to spend to much time on it as I would get nothing else done.

The Lost Lights of St Kilda by Elisabeth Gifford.

1927: When Fred Lawson takes a summer job on St Kilda, little does he realise that he has joined the last community to ever live on that beautiful, isolated island. Only three years later, St Kilda will be evacuated, the islanders near dead from starvation. But for Fred, memories of that summer - and the island woman, Chrissie, with whom he falls in love - will never leave him.

By the way. Have you noticed that the government has announced when all sorts of venues will open but have not mentioned libraries. Philistines.

In 1988, Rosemary Bailey and her husband were travelling in the French Pyrenees when they fell in love with, and subsequently bought, a ruined medieval monastery, surrounded by peach orchards and snow-capped peaks. Traces of the monks were everywhere, in the frescoed 13th century chapel, the buried crypt, the stone arches of the cloister.

Just finished this one, a very enjoyable read

Australia, 1946. 650 brides are departing for England to meet the men they married in wartime. But instead of the luxury liner they were expecting, they find themselves aboard an aircraft carrier, alongside a thousand men.

On the sun-baked decks, old loves and past promises become distant memories, and tensions are stretched to the limit as brides and husbands change their minds. And for Frances Mackenzie, one bride in particular, it soon becomes clear that sometimes the journey is more important than the destination.

Just got it, on the recommendation of my sister:
Through the Narrow Gate: A Nun's Story: A Memoir of Convent Life,,,,,by Karen Armstrong.
She has written a lot of books. She was in a convent for awhile, then left. Wrote many books on philosophy and comparative religions after she left.
    Ta-Ta for now!
