We are going through the processing of fostering, I found a book in the library about a womans experience with a foster child.

Its called damaged, I cannot remember the authors name but it had me crying. The little girl was 7 and had been sexually abused by parents and their friends, though no one seemed to want to help this girl.

She was in 5 foster homes in 4 months, before she ended up with the author, she took time and patience and found out about the abuse. It was also found the girl had sustained brain damage which lead to her behaviour.

Though my favourite book is 'Dont Tell Mummy' by Toni Maguire, based near me in Northern Ireland

I finished 'The last Song Dogs' yesterday and enjoyed it. You are kept guessing as to Who and Why till the end. Just started on 'The cat who ate cheese'. Too early yet to say much, but I am sure it's as much fun as the rest in the series

I have finished The Last Testament by Sam Bourne and prefered it to The Righteous Men.

Have moved on to The Coffin Dancer by Jeffery Deaver - great stuff

In theory I'm reading Carpe Jugulum by Terry Pratchett, but in practice I'm probably watching repeats of Mock The Week on Dave!

If any of you ever get stuck for something to read, this is an excellent thread to go through again - just came up with a few more books that I'd like to read because of what was said here. Thanks everybody!

I love the idea that this is something one has to prepare for.

Currently rereading S is for Silence by Sue Grafton. Looking through this thread you can see why the thrillers and whodunnits are such big sellers, there's an awful lot of us read them!

Just finished Brooklyn by Colm Toibin. I went along reading this book thinking it was good, not great - and then something happened and I was completely pulled into the story, cried a little, stayed up to finish it - the whole bit! Excellent author (this is the first I've read). Brooklyn is basically about an Irish girl who goes to Brooklyn for work - so some comparisons with Ireland and New York. But mostly it's about family and relationships - just in a really moving and interesting way.
