It is mostly the lead up to her murder of Sir Thomas Overbury in the Tower of London when it looked as though he would spill the beans on all he knew about her plotting and use of underhand methods to obtain her own ends; afterwards it deals with the fall out and consequences for the pair of them. It's the usual great read from Jean Plaidy, a gripping story, I was supposed to be listing and came across it, so spent the rest of the evening reading.
    I've only read the books she wrote as Victoria Holt.
    At the moment I'm reading Cadmian's Choice by L E Modesitt

    I have just finished reading 7th Heaven by James Patterson - rather enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next installment of the Womens Murder Club.

    I have just started The Outcast by Sadie Jones. I must admit that it is not a book I would have chosen myself but as it came as a Christmas present I shall give it a go, must admit I have enjoyed the first few pages so far.

    I'm still reading Shute's Ruined City, but decided I needed a bit of light relief from the grimness, so am having a quick reread of Truckers by Sir* Terry Pratchett. Huge fun.

    * bravo!

    Ooooh Truckers. That one had me crying with laughter. Diggers was nearly as funny, but somehow Wings missed it for me.

    Sir Terry Pratchett has caused me the most stomach pain of any author I know, he's the only one that causes me to laugh till it hurts.

    Just finished Sad Cypress by Agatha Christie - they didn't murder the plot at all on TV (often they do)

    Finished Truckers and Diggers, but decided on a break before Wings, so reading my latest "cat who" from Meebo1. Not sure, at this rate, that I'll actually get back to Shute's Ruined City... I do find I tend to avoid misery as much as possible these days!

    Just got into Niall Ferguson's EMPIRE: The Rise and Demise of the British World Order and the Lessons for Global Power.
    Amazing and amusing that if not for the British Sweet Tooth and crass commercialism the Empire never would have come into existence...

    I have just finished 'The chocolate puppy puzzle' and as I returned it to the shelf discovered another in the series. So now it's 'The chocolate bear mystery' and a box of chockies and I'll be quiet for a few hours
