I have just finished Phantom Prey by John Sandford - excellent read, but rather creepy, Lucas Davenport triumphs again

Time for something lighter again so I am moving back to my supply of Janet Evanovich and am starting To The Nines - go Stephanie Plum

Going back to Terry Pratchett's roots... reading The Colour of Magic. It's amazing how much his ideas have developed over the years, revisiting the original Ankh Morpork is fascinating.

Just finished 'Duma Key' by Stephen King - I think he's now well & truly back in the saddle - excellent read!

re: Stephen Donaldson - I gave 4 of his books away to charity a couple of weeks ago - had them listed for ages with only a couple of 'hits'!!! Grrr.

I agree, the first few books seemed to be "proper fantasy" but I recently read The Truth after about a 5 year break from his books and I was stunned by how much of a parody it seemed.

I'm currently reading I Claudius by Robert Graves, it's a great book and I'm enjoying every minute of it. I'm looking forward to reading the sequal.

I prefer the recent stuff - rich in irony rather than parody I'd have said. But I've enjoyed my trip back in time. I'm now listening to the audio version of The Light Fantastic. Also good fun.

Moved on to Kiss the Girls by James Patterson - have not read this series in order at all, but thankfully it doesn't really matter

Just finished "In Praise of Slow" by Carl Honoré , which has given me a lot of food for thought, I am now consciously slowing down - and getting more done. I think everyone with a frenetic lifestyle should read it .

I've also just finished "The Hound of Death" by Agatha Christie, which is a collection of short stories, with an occult leaning. Not particularly good, rather dated I thought with an odd writing style I'm not used to from her.

Now moving on to "Why We Buy" by Paco Underhill, the science of shopping, which promises to be very good.

I never think Christie's books that are non-whodunits work half as well. She just didn't have a flexible style. I'm an Agatha junky, so I hope she won't mind that one small complaint.

Back to something lighter for me now and my last supply of Janet Evanovich and Stephanie Plum - Ten Big Ones. I will have to ask for her new book for Christmas

That leaves me one left from my birthday pile and I was really good in not choosing to read this one now - Nothing to Lose by Lee Child, I absolutely love the Jack reacher novels and am really looking forward to reading it.
