I'm not sure it matters much, John, but it sort of looks as if there is something wrong with an item which has 257 views and no buyer. You and I know that it just means the right person hasn't looked (I'm with you all the way on waiting for the right person for an odd item), but I'm not sure it looks great to the casual observer.

I think seeing "bids" is more important than seeing "looks". I'm not impressed by "interest" and no sell thru. If I had the option to hide the viewing numbers I would do so, especially in my "buy it now" book store. Even I wonder why so many people VIEW a book and read the write up and then at $1.50 with the lowest shipping I've seen almost anywhere still don't make a purchase. After so many looks it starts to feel like there is something wrong with the merchandise or the sellers reptutation????? You really got to wonder what's going on as a seller with so many looks and no sales! I thought perhaps it was because I did not offer google checkout, but so far, since I started taking that as a form of payment the sales have yet to improve on my BINs. I've actually sold more "auction" items. Either way.....I am still satisfied, but I am used to quicker sales. So I am just trying to find time to build a larger inventory and hope things will start rolling eventually just because of sheer quanity.

BUMP! Ouch.....I sure hope Gazza and Mark have time to glance at this thread sometime soon. Lots of good comments on it and nearly 60 opinions voting as well. There seems to be a pretty clear pattern showing here that most would like to see bids more visible somehow. Please feel free to keep this thread alive people. Hopefully it will get noticed soon.........

Hi this is my original posting from a thread started by jeweleffects, the quote is what one potential seller saw and is what their impression was at first glance of the site:

    Quote:
ebid.net poster. I just went to your site. Looked in my category (arts) saw listing after listing - no bids. You really think I can spend 49.99 for that? I can go to one of the others and list for free and get a bid now and then too and be way ahead of the game. Just a thought - you’re really not offering us the end all alternative. (shrug) UNQUOTE

Hi jewel this is another reply that has also been posted a little further down, this is an issue that I do think ebid should address because when you are browsing you cannot see that bids have been made in items at first glance as they are all red.

Could items with bids not show up as another colour? Or say underneath how many bids have been placed? When sellers come to look this is what they see and it puts them off as they dont go through every listing looking for bids, they think it is like feebay where it will show as another colour.

Just my thoughts, I am thinking that it is putting off potential new sellers and buyers as it makes the site look like there is not much activity.

I've heard the same thing from seller friends of mine who I have recommended this site too. And many people....in fact I would say the majority of people right now are coming into this site via a link to some item or seller's store there fore bypassing the front page, which is the ONLY place you see activity on. Not good for a very active and growing site IMHO. I think the site might grow much faster if we could share some of the excitement many of us feel that have had sales and see good things happening!
