Cool anyone know anything about scalextric

    Hi

we have found my husbands old scalextric. Its approx 35 years old still in the original box ( very dogearred though) dont think it works but it has all the original parts including cars, transformers and tracks. Would this be a collectors item worth putting up for auction ? appreciate any advice from any scalextric whiz kids out there

The latest track doesn't fit the old style track, but there are a lot of people who love the old style, and may be looking for extra track and features.

First, lay out a small track and see if yours works! If it doesn't, is it the power supply or the actual cars that are at fault?

Sorry I can't give a price guide, but have a look at what other people are selling around various auction sites.

Well, if it's just a basic set then it could be worth anything from £20 to £80, as a rough guess. If it's something special, like a rare edition, then it could be worth more. If it's been hammered, i.e. used to destruction, then it'll be worth less (but not worthless!) Collectors of the old stuff will always need spare parts. Really really old cars can be worth a lot!

It's worth your while setting out a small circuit to try it out, there isn't much that can actually go wrong with the old scalextric as the technology was so simple, burned out controllers were the biggest problem as I recall. Be sure to connect the transformer and controllers to the track and each other properly (does it come with instructions?)
A working set will probably fetch a lot more than a not-sure or not-working set.
