i never win bids at real auctions with poxy bids i mean proxy bids only time i win is when i can see who i`m bidding against
I think it depends who is there.
Last October time I left a load of proxy bids somewhere - about 6 different lots and was expecting to get only one of them. Got them all and all at only about half my maximum bid. Because I know the guys who work there I mentioned something to them and I got a "non of the regulars" were here.
Somerset, I didn't ask how much they went for; I phoned before auction end and Veronica was quite keen to get rid of me because she had to phone someone for a telephone bidding session. I left one bid for 100 and one for 125, although I was doubtful about the first one, I was fairly confident about the 2nd one - there must have been a local private collector there, because there were lots of local postcards, none of them particularly valuable.
as you said marianne it all depends whose at the auction,& the other thing is if its of local interest.
Sometimes at one of the ;local auction houses, people will come from 50+ MILES JUST TO MAke sure they get them which means sometimes us locals dont stand a chance.
It also depends on the type of auction maplegin. Antique and collectables or specialist auctions tend to attract more people then general auctions. And of course the "name" of the auction house.
I am lucky enough to have 7 different auctioneers within a 20 mile radius (about 10 in a 25 mile radius). One is Charles Ross at the one end of the scale at the other end of the scale there is a bloke who just does house clearances and doesn't even have a website. When occasionally he has a lot of postcards I always seem to be able to get them for next to nothing - largely because he mainly got furniture, china, books and only very occasionally postcards, but because he doesn't advertise he doesn't get the postcard collectors/dealers.
Right troops, jolly good show yesterday, we've taken back quite a bit of ground due to your good work and fighting spirit! Another big push today should see us back in the green and then of course Private Betam should be back to top that up too! Look sharp now the captain should be along soon.

Private iwiw checking in before heading off to church...I'm confused!!!!
Just several days ago eBid/US was sitting around the mid 900,000's and today it's sitting in the high 600,000's. I realize that betamonline has a ton of listings that will be put back up shortly, but c'mon.....300,000?????
What the HECK happened in the last few days that would cause us to lose around 300,000 listing counts???
Woe is me.......I'm soooooo depressed......but I'll keep on listing!!!!
