I'm very sad to read to read this awful news about the Old Sailor, Annie.
Surely the care home could have let you know earlier that your dad was in need of treatment before it got so bad?
Prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. Hugs (((xxx)))

'so sorry, Annie. Are they dosing him up good with antibiotics to give it a chance? He's tough, so I hope he comes through this one way or another. What an awful awful shock.xx

So, so sorry to hear your news Private Mcc2. My grandmother had to have her leg amputated due to pricking her ankle on a rose thorn in the garden and although they had to revive her on the operating table she went on to live another four years. I do understand the decision the Old Sailor has made though as he is that bit older but it's still hard for you to come to terms with and such a shock.
Like others have said the care home should have notified you as soon as something was spotted ! Are they giving him any other treatment ?

Billy was given the same choice back in September 2013. His issue was due to blood clots that had gone untreated that led to his leg dying.

He was given a 50/50 chance of surviving the op and he's sat here next to me.

    He was younger though (54)

I assume he's being given medication as prescribed by the GP. He was moved from our GP practice when he moved in to the one that deals with the care home so I don't know the doctors. Unless I ask for information, it's not given out. Even the Admin folks had no knowledge of his trip to Shrewsbury hospital !!

Will see what tomorrow brings ....

Time for another mug of tea and maybe some toast.

Annie am so sorry for all of you, its a horrible decison to make, hope they are giving him strong Anti biotics, as the others have said why was it left so long before you were told. Hope you can have a good contact with him tomorrow, this Virus has a lot to answer for.

Hope Annie you have managed to have a good cuppa, & even ginger biscuits.

At least today the sun is out, so better than nothing

Just had a phone call from the care home to cancel my meeting with the Old Sailor for later today as he's on his way back to Shrewsbury Hospital. I'm assuming this is for pre-op tests, etc.

As the Surgeon wanted to operate this morning, I'm now wondering .......

Now on tenterhooks and in need of a stiff drink!
