Feeling quite surreal this morning after a thunderbolt out of the blue late yesterday afternoon. Had a phone call from Shrewsbury hospital about the Old Sailor who was there in Out Patients [had no idea he was going] and then the Surgeon came on the phone... the Old Sailor needs immediate surgery to amputate his leg above the knee or his life expectancy would be just a few weeks - what were my thoughts? To say I was I was gob smacked is an under statement. It's not diabetes; it's an infection that has spread and turned nasty, very nasty. They could operate this Friday if he agreed to surgery.

As it turned out out, Dad decided to come back to the care home without making a decision and I was called in to see him. He was very tired but able to talk about the pros and cons - and the risks.

Then I had another phone call this morning from the care home - he's decided on the surgery route even though the risk is very high because of his age and general frailty.
So it maybe this Friday or early next week....

Lots of things to think about... I go in to see him again this afternoon.

Oh Ann I am so sorry but if there is any chance of extending his life then this has to be the right decision, A big one as you don't know how it will affect him in the future but why didn't the care home see this before now, this darn virus has a lot to answer for give him our love when you can if they ever let us out of our houses again XXX

Annie we hope it will be okay he will be in our prayers, glad you are able to see him, hopefully will extend his life with you being able to visit. I assume its somethig that they have just found

Sounds as though everyday they are closing down areas, hopefully the whole country won't go into lockdown, though think it may have to be put in place. Everyday in this area more schools are having classes sent home.

Awful decision. So sorry for the Old Sailor and for all the family.
I'm glad you can have access to him....
