It's a food waste collection bin. Ours is in a small green bin that we put out every week with the recycling boxes. We're provided with biodegradable bags to put all the waste cooked/uncooked food in to - the bins are to stop animals and birds getting to the contents which go for composting.

I'm jealous Private Mcc2 yours are much more colourful than ours in Bath !

Private Gold, we have two green tubs one to be used for glass & paper, the other for plastic and tins. The blue bag is for cardboard and the small black bin for food waste.
You are given either a black wheelie bin or black sack for general rubbish (depending if there are steps on your property) which is collected once a fortnight. The recycling is collected once a week.
You can also pay to rent a green wheelie bin for garden waste which is collected once a fortnight or buy brown paper sacks

Ours is slightly different: We have a black wheelie bin for general household rubbish which is collected every week. Green bag for paper, blue bag for plastic, and a grey plastic box for tins and glass are collected fortnightly. Our green wheelie for garden rubbish is FREE and collected fortnightly.
Nothing, as yet, for food refuse which goes into main household rubbish.

Lovely morning out there eBidders so maybe won't be stuck in the house all day for a change.

p.s. to my above post re: recycling etc. We also have a black wheelie bin for general household rubbish which is emptied every 3 weeks - and there are rumblings about changing this to 4 weeks!

Powys have also just introduced a fortnightly collection of garden waste for which if you use it, they charge £35 per year and only run it April-October. Otherwise it's down to the re-cycling yard at the other end of town.

Time for my mug of tea.

You certainly are Private Stitch our fortnightly garden waste collection bin is £45.90 from Feb - Nov and the paper sacks cost £2.85 each ! We have so much gardening stuff that O/H also has to do several dump runs a year as our bin is always full !

Managed to get all my relists caught up with yesterday and listed a new one. Plus repainted and varnished my bathroom floor so that is looking a lot better.

Got a girl's night out tonight in Bath so please put the sawdust down on the parade ground and type quietly in the morning !

Sgt hope you have a good night.

As for Garden bins we pay for that can't remember what but pay every 2 years, & they collect everyother week accept over Christmas, & if we get snow, they use the crews for snow clearing etc not hat we ever see it. Our food bins are brown, but we have to buy bags to go in it or wrap in newspaper. our black bin for general is every 2 weeks.

Have done the relists & listed yesterday so am trying to keep everything going.

Another afterthought re: plastics. Our red box is for hard plastics only as the 2-3 companies that Powys has contracts with won't touch any other sort.

So, the soft, stretchy plastic [clean cling film, polythene bags, freezer food bags, etc.] has to either go in the black wheelie bin or gets taken to the local Tesco/Morrisons and put in the carrier bag collection points for recycling.

    No wonder people give up!

It's the same here, all the soft stuff has to go in general waste and also we can't recycle hard black coloured plastic either. So many items seem to have black plastic tops or lids and these all end up in landfill.
