DESCRIPTION

Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps, King's Crown, large 25 mm brass button.  Makers mark: "W SCULLY" over "MONTREAL" with shank in place.

Excellent item for any collector of Canadian or Commonwealth insignia.

HISTORY 

The Corps, were formed in 1904, as the "Permanent Active Militia Army Medical Corps" and in 1909, they became the Canadian Army Medical Corps, serving as such in WW1.  In 1919, they were granted the "Royal" prefix for their war service.

Members of the R.C.A.M.C. continued to serve Canada and the Commonwealth through WW2 and the Korean War. Bi-metal, Q.C. versions were adopted in 1953. 

In 1968, when the Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Navy and Royal Canadian Air Force amalgamated their medical services into one administrative command entity, the Corps amalgamated with similar entities of the R.C.N. and R.C.A.F., to form the Medical Services Branch of the Canadian Forces, adopting a Queen's Crown badge, based on that of the R.C.A.M.C.

On October 9, 2013 it was renamed the Royal Canadian Medical Service.
