And as if by magic, the shopkeeper appeared... I'm a reasonably normal mother of four children, and have been selling online since 2004. This probably won't seem like long to the real old-timers, but I can't imagine doing anything else now. There's something almost magical to me about knowing that the item held in my hand will often be held in someone else's on the other side of the country in twenty-four hours or so (even on the other side of the world in some cases, although this takes a little longer!). I particularly enjoy uniting obscure or hard-to-find items with new owners - not much compares with the glow I get from the enthusiastic e-mail which tells me that THE right item has found THE right person. Everything possible is done at fruitcakeUK to ensure that goods are produced by a workforce given a fair wage for the labour it provides, and that the organizations that produce the products sold utilize no animal testing whatsoever. Packaging is kept to a minimum, although is always sufficient to see an order arrive intact at its destination. fruitcakeUK was born of my passion for all things decorative and glitzy. If you ever suspect that someone's left the Christmas tree up in the middle of July, take a closer look and you're likely to discover that it's me, staggering around under a layer of costume jewellery. Mine hasn't been the only influence here however - in some ways my customers have had as much of a hand in the creation of the shop as I've had, since many of the lines carried now have been the result of a buyer request.
