YAER - Yet Another eBay Refugee!

Hello, thanks for checking us out!  My name is Richard Creger and I have sold a variety of things online over the years.  About 10 years ago, I got my start on eBay the same way most sellers did;  I sold some of the stuff I had lying around to make some extra money.

In early 2004 I started a small business and moved up to goods purchased in bulk at wholesale.  I sold Marine Electronics (fish finders, GPS, VHF radios, etc) for a couple of years.  I was motivated to leave eBay (the first time) when I got sick of watching eBay make as much money as I was EVERY month for simply providing a venue.

I was the one researching products, negotiating with and then driving 40 miles round trip to my wholesaler each week, warehousing inventory, answering emails, sending invoices, printing shipping labels, packaging orders and making daily rounds to the Post Office, UPS and Fedex.  In short, I was working very hard to make money for eBay.

Competition was stiff, profit margins were thin and fees seemed to be never ending (You haven't lived until you have paid $2500 a month in selling fees alone).  By the summer of 2004 I moved off eBay and onto an e-commerce site with my own domain.  Unfortunately, personal issues intervened a few months later; Unable to give it my full attention, I pulled the plug on my online business in 2005.

Now, in 2010, I find myself wondering why I thought things might have improved at feeBay.  Last year I sold a fair number of NWT Brand Name Men's Dress Shirts from a high end retailer (sorry, I can't name names).

This time around the competition remained stiff and profit margins were better, but the fees were higher than ever.  Not to mention eBay's constantly evolving policy and fee structure.  It did not take long to become convinced that eBay now has little to no interest in small sellers, perhaps bordering on hostility.

I apologize if this seems like gripe session about eBay.  It's not, I just wanted to give you some perspective about how I came to be here on eBid.

eBid exists as a viable marketplace because the flagship venue (eBay) has taken it's eye off the ball and IMO has entered a downward spiral to mediocrity if not outright irrelevance.  I look forward to the day when eBid overtakes the #1 position.
