Some Information About amcphotographics
What sort of printer do you use?
We have Epson Stylus Pro 9800 and Epson Stylus Pro 7800 printers, using Epson Ultrachrome Inks. These are not offset printers so we require all files to be RGB format and NOT CMYK. Designers should note that we require files to be in RGB format from scratch and not created in CMYK.
What papers do you use?
We currently stock several types of paper:
260gsm high quality glossy or satin (semi-gloss) photo paper - This paper is suitable for any type of image and has a beautiful high quality finish. It's ideal for any type of photograph, text and graphics and dark images.
230gsm high quality matt photo paper - This paper is suitable for any type of image and has a beautiful smooth matt finish. It's ideal for any type of photograph, text and graphics and dark images.
120gsm (budget) high resolution matt paper - This paper is suitable for text and graphics and some photographs, as long as they are not too dark. It's ideal for temporary event posters. Because this paper is lightweight it has a tendancy to wrinkle if printed with large areas of solid, dark colours. If you are unsure, I recommend sending me your image for assesment before purchasing posters on this budget media. You can e-mail me by clicking here
How long will it take to get my poster?
Nearly all posters are shipped the same or next working day. If your artwork and payment are received before noon it will be shipped the same day, depending on the quantity ordered. If you need a poster very urgently, please contact me on 07971 804149 to arrange for Special Delivery.
How big should my image file be?
A minimum of 100dpi is recommended minimum resolution for clear and sharp printing.
Examples:
An A2+ image is 18"x24" (inches) that's 1800 by 2400 pixels.
An A1+ image is 24"x36" (inches) that's 2400 by 3600 pixels.
An A0+ image is 36"x48" (inches) that's 3600 by 4800 pixels.
These are approximate and minimum dimensions given as a guideline. Please see the image below for exact "A" paper sizes. You'll need to use these if you are buying a ready-made frame.
Making an original image larger in Photoshop will not improve the quality of the image.
JPG is the preferred format for image files.
I can accept up to 20mb in any one e-mail. Please send more than one e-mail if necessary.
If your image is too big to e-mail to me (over 20mb) you can use services like www.yousendit.com or www.mailbigfile.com or post a CD!
What about PDF files?
PDF (portable document files) are different and are preferred when the poster you need printing is text and/or graphics. With PDF you can create an A4 file in your favourite desktop publishing software (like MS Word, MS Publisher or Adobe Illustrator). The real advantage is that no matter what size image is required there will be no loss of quality in the printing.
Just remember, if you insert a low resolution image into a PDF it will not improve the quality!
How do I create a PDF file?
There are several free PDF creators available on the internet. Just do a Google search for “free pdf creator” or check out www.dopdf.com. They are provided with full instructions.
What's the difference between an image and a graphic?
Basically, an image is a photograph and a graphic is a drawing.
Can you laminate posters larger than A2?
Sorry, no I can’t. I can currently laminate sizes A4, A3 and A2. The glossy 200gsm media I use is fairly water resistant but cannot be guaranteed waterproof.
Postage & packaging costs what am I paying for?
First class or special delivery (you choose).
I do not charge more than actual cost for postage and packaging.
Postage and packaging cost include the following:
a) A sturdy postal tube labelled as "FRAGILE" to protect your item in the post. These cost an average of £1.20 each.
b) First class delivery to ensure your item is delivered quickly. You posters will be sent same or next working day. No waiting around! Most people will receive their posters in 24-48 hours from ordering. (Some areas of Scotland and the Channel Islands seem to take 2 days.)
How do I send an image from my account?
You must use the option of "send a file" rather than "send an image". If you don't do this will resize your image to make it much smaller and unusable.
