Some Information About aajb0
Hi,
Many years ago when I was younger, and had a lot more expendable income, I had two great passions, records and comics.
I built up a fairly large collection of both, and now in order to clear some space and fund building a couple of new PC’s I am selling off the comic’s.
Most of my comics were read only once and placed in a comic bag and box, some even had a board (if I felt it might be worth something in the future). They are in generally very good condition, although I am no expert comic grader, and I will try to price and describe them as fairly as I can.
It might take a while to list them all, so if you’re looking for a certain issue check back every now and then, I might list it.
This is a purely second-hand endeavour, it is unlikely that I will be listing anything newer than the mid 90’s and I generally only have one copy of each comic (apart from the rare occasions I bought a few issues that had different covers), so once their gone that is it.
“Comics aren’t just for kids”
I may be preaching to the converted but I feel it’s important to emphasise this point.
A lot of the comics I have are classed as “suggested for mature readers”, this does not mean they are pornographic or excessively violent.
It does however mean that they could or will contain scenes of violence, swearing, nudity, non pornographic sex, political opinion and controversial subject matter. Basically everything you might expect when you buy and read a book or novel aimed at the average grown up.
I will try to note in the description if a comic falls into this category, but please be careful if you are buying some of my comics for a person who is under 18.
(The comic company information I have provided below might prove useful in this situation)
Some possibly useful information...
Thanks to Google and the knowledgeable contributors to Wikipedia I have put together some general information about the comic company’s that produced the comics I am selling. (I will update this list as I know I have some independent and British comics lurking around somewhere not published by the usual suspects).
DC Comics (founded originally in 1934 as National Allied Publications) is one of the largest and most popular American comic book and related media companies, along with Marvel Comics. A subsidiary of Warner Bros. Entertainment since 1969, DC Comics produces material featuring a large number of well-known characters, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Green Lantern and the Justice League.
The initials "DC" came from the company's popular series, Detective Comics, which subsequently became part of the company's official name.
Marvel Comics is an American comic book and related media company owned by Marvel Publishing, Inc., a subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment, Inc. Marvel counts among its characters such well-known properties as Captain America, the Fantastic Four, the Hulk, Iron Man, Spider-Man, the X-Men, and many others. Most of Marvel's fictional characters operate in one single reality; this is known as the Marvel Universe.
The comic book arm of the company started in 1939 as Timely Publications, and by the 1950s was generally known as Atlas Comics. Marvel's modern incarnation dates from 1961, with the launching of Fantastic Four and other superhero titles created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and others. Marvel has since become the largest American comic book publisher over long time competitor DC Comics.
Vertigo is an imprint of the American comic-book publisher DC Comics. Its books are marketed to a late-teen and adult audience, and may contain graphic violence, substance abuse, frank (but not explicit) depictions of sexuality, profanity, and controversial subjects. Although many of its releases are in the horror and fantasy genres, it also publishes works dealing with crime, social satire, speculative fiction, and biography. Each issue's cover carries the advisory label "Suggested for mature readers".
Epic Comics was a creator-owned imprint of Marvel Comics started in 1982, lasting through the mid-1990s, and being briefly revived on a small scale in the mid-2000s. The imprint allowed Marvel to publish a more mature line of comics oriented toward an older audience. This is important to note, as some Epic titles do not have a "Suggested for mature readers" label even though they often are.
Dark Horse Comics is one of the largest independent American comic book publishers, behind dominant publishers Marvel Comics and DC Comics.
Mike Richardson, the owner of several comic book shops in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area, began to publish in 1986 with an anthology series called Dark Horse Presents, investing profits from his stores into Dark Horse Comics.
Many Dark Horse titles are aimed towards an older audience and it is important to note, some older issues do not have a "Suggested for mature readers" label even though they often are.
Image Comics is an American comic book publisher. It was founded in 1992 by seven high-profile illustrators as a venue where creators could publish their material without giving up the copyrights to the characters they created, as creator-owned properties. Along with DC, Marvel and Dark Horse, Image Comics is one of the four largest comic book publishers in America.
And finally.....
I occasionally sell things on the other side, so if you’re interested in my feedback from there....
