I am a professional Genealogist offering Somerset field research although the whole of the United Kingdom can be researched.
Born and bred in Bridgwater Somerset to a father from London and a mother who was a German National. The family found themselves in Bridgwater through circumstances caused by World War II. The London Blitz forced many evacuees to flee the capital and younger members of the family were scattered around Bridgwater. My father was old enough to enlist and was stationed in Hubbelrath, Dusseldorf where he met my mother.
My career began in the British Army as a signal(wo)man in 1980 using 'high tech' computers to send encrypted messages. Having gained the basic computer skills needed, I went on to take the old CLAIT (Computer Literacy and Information Technology) Course at the local YMCA. I passed with distinction and was promptly offered a job as a teacher. My students achieved a 100% pass rate and soon I began taking more courses which added to my skills and knowledge. With new skills on board I was offered a job as a directors secretary for a local supermarket chain which then relocated in Bristol. During this time I met my future husband and moved to Holland where I learnt to speak fluent Dutch and also worked for a seed company producing (at the time) the worlds largest seed Database.
Whilst away from 'home' and living closer to my mothers homeland I began to ponder on my origins and how I had managed to come full-circle as my first child was born in s-Hertogenbosch, a town that my father had helped liberate during the Second World War. I began compiling my family tree which now contains over 1200 individuals and spans hundreds of years and several countries.
After relocating back in Bridgwater with my children I began gaining employment that fitted around family commitments. Working free-lance teaching computer skills and genealogy to provide for my family, during this time I decided to further my career and achieve a university degree. The degree was initially to take me back into teaching however during the three years of study, and through self assessment, it was apparent that research was my forte. Analysis of my personalty repeated time and time again that my heart was in history and genealogy. With research skills finely honed and with an analytical mind, I decided to take the jump and make my passion my full-time employment by beginning my own small business.
Today I run my own business and am currently writting several books.
