Academy Award Winning Actor Michael Caine first catapulted to stardom as Lt. Gonvill Bromhead in this spectacular Hisstorical epic, a vivid re-enactment of one of the most heroic, glorious and deadly days in British military history.
Zulu is a 1964 British epic war film depicting the Battle of Rorke's Drift between the British Army and the Zulus in January 1879. Released for home Video in 1992. Zulu depicts with devastating accuracy the events of January 22, 1967, when news reaches the lonely outpost of Rorke's Drift, Natal, of the catastrophic massacre of 1500 British soldiers at the hand of Zulu warriors at Isandhlwana. Knowing it's their duty to hold the fort against the oncoming hordes, Lt. J ohn Chard (Co-producer Stanley Baker) and his second-in-command Lt. Bromhead (Michael Caine) order barricades put up to repel the Zulus.
Supurbly acted and directed, this meticulous recreation of the battle where the 105 men of the South Wales Borderers defended their post against 4000 Zulu warriers, is breathtaking in scope. Virtually half the film is taken up by the battle. A rousing action spectacular akin the Charge of the Light Brigade and Gunga Din, Zulu will keep you on the edge of your seat.
