Seller's Description
Rare Signed Salamandra Hand Blown Art Glass Flower Shaped Bowl
This amethyst purple glass bowl is made from transparent amethyst colored glass and is designed with a high back and a low front (or vise versa or any way you prefer.) Each 'petal' is at a slightly different height with two petals about 4.25 inches tall, two petals about 4 inches tall and two at about 3 inches tall.
The inside bottom of the bowl has a swirl of opaque white and darker purple, which reminds this writer of a pansy flower.
The outside bottom of the bowl has been finished, probably by sanding, and four raised dot 'legs' lift the piece slightly.
Made by Salamandra Art Glass Studio of Dover/Portsmouth New Hampshire in 1988, this piece is signed on the bottom with 'Salamandra Glass 1988' and also 'SG2.'
The studio ceased operations in 2008.
A note on how the light plays with this piece in our photographs: we see the light in the room reflected in the glass when taking photos in incandescent light. The many folds of the item create many spaces for reflection after reflection, so that one actual light show as what may look like many white dots of light in our photographs. This is even more enhanced in our flash photographs which cause reflections of the light and flash like a starry night with the white dots of the light resembling stars. The photo of the underside of the bowl taken with flash makes the 'petals' look as through they are clear glass when they are not. it is very interesting to see how this piece plays with the light, incandescent, flash and how the flash photo can alter what the piece truly looks like.
Photos 1-4, 10-11 and 14 were taken in incandescent light. The other photographs were taken with flash.
